It's all about an abusive piano teacher.  Supposedly based upon real happenings.  Use your imagination, you'll probably get it right.  (although I have NEVER done any of those things, maybe just thought them!)  It was funny.

My computer's slow.  What is it?
it's basically a burned out teacher(it's just for fun, it's a video made for fun,not a real lesson)...    the teacher gets out of control and hits the student in the head, closes the lid on the piano on his fingers, chases him with a shovel, etc.

Yeah, pulls out a piano string and chokes the student. You know what's funny, when he did that, I didn't even think of the student.  All I could think of is he's hurting the piano!  Boy, my priorities were wrong there!

Greetings.

It is indeed funny, but the "based on real events" has got to be the funniest. I know that there are alot of angry teachers out there, but shovel chasing and choking is a bit too much. Is this really based on real events or is it just a ruse?

I actually think it's pretty sad as it is - but if there was any seriousness about it being based on reality - that would be dreadful.  Anybody who acted remotely like that would be held for assault - and if there was any truth to the burial, well they'd be murderers!  If anybody is seriously that angry as a teacher, then they are in the wrong field - to say the least!

I know, however, that in the old days (like 50 years ago, I guess - although I wasn't around) the strict teachers (I've heard of many nuns doing this) would rap students on the knuckles with sticks if they used flat fingers and tie them to broom-sticks to keep straight backs.  No wonder many people left music lessons as soon as they could.

Yes sure it is a joke. But it made me so sad because sometimes in my teaching career I got really angry with some students. Of course i don't slap them but the mood was really bad in the lessons some rare times. And suddenly when I watched that video all these experiences came back and I was like OMG I don't want to be such a bad teacher. But ok, now I'm even thinking about sending this link to one of my students who doesn't practise enough. It would show him that I'm really a much nicer piano teacher for him than this guy :P Perhaps it helps ;D

hee hee... I like the line, "don't you know the difference between a demi semi quaver and a hemi demi semi quaver by now!!!!"

I've got to admit when it first started I thought, oh geees, you shouldn't teach like that, and then as it continued I got the point it was making fun of some things teachers do  ... and then just took it to extremes!

Then I loved how the student asks to be picked up cause "piano isn't for me!""

Great points it made by use of ridiculousness!! Thanks for the link jpianoflorida!

I am sorry, but that isn't Pachelbel's canon Mark is playing. There is no recorring base and quite frankly, it isn't Pachelbel's canon. Is it?

I felt sorry for the poor piano too...

My Dad kinda took apart our piano to clean it (it's a lovely baby grand).  I came home and saw it and I literally screamed , fell to my knees, stuck my head to the floor and started crying and screaming about my "poor piano."

I've wanted to do that to students... >.>

mmmm ... i didn't think that sounded like Canon in D either ... the sheet music at the end says Polly Wolly Doodle...??

And I was thinking, even though it's in jest, if that's the REAL piano this guy does lessons on, he needs to get it tuned!!

Ha ha. After what the piano has been through in that lesson alone, I think it will need much more than just tuning.

Nah, it is some other piece. When you told me that it was Canon is D I was almost like ::) to my self for not figuring it out. I am sure that that wasn't that particular Canon. You can tell by the bass anyway, as that Canon has the recurring base as a constant. Ha, after what that piano has been trough, I wouldn't be surprised if he was trying to play Canon.

Hey Jay, you should send this video to your students with a note "this is how I'll end up"  :D. That should definately cheer them up. There is nothing as encouraging as good humour.

i still say it's canon!    unless you can identify it as something else, i still say canon!    i could play that part for you right now if i had a way to record.   Go listen to a recording of canon in d .

I haven't listened to it again lately, but when I heard it, I also thought it was canon in d.

I have heard Canon in D a thousand times and the piece Mark is playing isn't that Canon. It may be similar, but it is not that piece.

i've been teaching canon in d for 15 years, it's a variation or if it's not, then it's piece of music that has the same measures as in canon........

It may very well be a variation on Canon, but if it doesn't follow the same bass line, then it ceases to ba a Canon. It certainly doesn't follow the base line, and although it may sound similar to the Canon, it isn't that same Canon. We need more public opinion on this.

I can hear the base line, and it isn't the same one as in Canon. The piano maybe out of tune-heh, after what it's been through....

Anyways, we need more opinions, and or ask the producer of the video.
