Name our trio
on: November 27, 2006, 10:46:05 AM
Ok, so I got a trio going

Piano trio

Consists of 3 members

Chong Xie - Piano
Kenneth Ho - Violin
Keith Tam (that's me) - Cello

Now we need a name. We do all sorts of music, usually classical, romantic and 20th century. We also do some jazz.

So name our trio! Whoever's name gets selected gets a big hug!
Bach - Partita No.2
Scriabin - Etude 8/12
Debussy - L'isle Joyeuse
Liszt - Un Sospiro

Goal:
Prokofiev - Toccata

Well, if you plan to play together for any length of time, I think that whatever name you finally chose should have some meaning for you. (Do you really want us to pull a name out of the air?)

You could name your trio after where you live. (e.g. Hoboken Trio, not saying that's where you're from.)
Your favorite composer. (e.g. Amadeus Trio, though there already is a quartet with that name.)
Of course, you can look at all kinds of musical terms. (Andante, allegro, col legno, although the Con Brio Trio is just a little too nursery-rhyme-y.)
You could name yourselves after a favorite teacher or a role model.
An astrological sign. (When did you decide to play together, when was the trio "born"?)

I could go on and on and I'm sure you will get some very interesting suggestions from members of this forum. (Pianistimo  :) )

Anyhow, best wishes and good luck in your new endeavor.

When we had to name our piano trio, it took us sooo long to come up with anything good.. anything that we suggested, there was at least one person who didn't like it!! In the end we named ourselves after a student composer at our conservatory, and thus we are called the Stawarz Trio, or Trio Stawarz.. people always call it star wars, but its pronounced Sta-vartz sorta. Yeah so theres my useless bit of information :P And if you do come up with a name make sure you research it just to check if anyone else has it. good luck!!!

Nice to learn that you know some men that are possessed of wisdom...

(shut up alistair)
Not, I think, an especially attractive, appropriate or "trip-off-the-tongue" name for any chamber ensemble, I'd say...

Hmm, we don't like Baroque that much, really.

We are just missing a darned name.

KCK, hmm, can't we be more creative :(

how about 'Xiefor3' as in tea for 2 +1 Xie instead of Tea.  You could go all hip and do Xie4:3 or something equally arty!

(Bob assumes a defensive 'non-hug' position, rolling a piano out as an extra barrier.... !  Bob realizes invictious is definite not female!....  The defensive position tightens down to an agressive defensive non-hug stance.   Bob exits.)

How about the Three Hugs Trio?

I just asked a friend for a name for our trio and he gave such a good name :P . I am not going to tell it, because you will steal it!

Anyway, no name is better than a bad name, many names that are funny when you come up with them aren't funny at all :( .

Trio Invictus sounds pretty cool to me.

It's INVICTIOUS for the last time

*uses skills in high jumping to get over piano and continues hugging bob*
*is still a male*

Since it's violin, cello, piano

I'd say KKC or something along the lines.

Usually we say to each other when we get a rehearsals 'Hey, beethoven trio on wednesday lunch'

even though we were doing jazz (A night in Tunisia)
Bach - Partita No.2
Scriabin - Etude 8/12
Debussy - L'isle Joyeuse

Yes but Invictious doesn't sound cool, I prefer Invictus for the trio name :P . KKC sounds much like KFC or KKK :\ .

Alright

After some discussion (mwahaha)

we came upon the final one

The Three Tone Trio

As you can se, there is lots of alliteration

Three tone = Seductive, nasal, generic

Seductive - Violins in general, not our violinist though, nor the sounds he makes with his violin

Nasal - my cello is so nasal, it's not funny.

Generic - Piano

It's meant to be a joke, but ah well.

THE THREE TONE TRIO!!!!!!!

*hugs bob*
Bach - Partita No.2
Scriabin - Etude 8/12
Debussy - L'isle Joyeuse
Liszt - Un Sospiro

Goal:
Prokofiev - Toccata
