I once did research about the information that newspapers have access to - compared to the information they choose to publish. There is a huge amount of data that does not get published. For example, information from Africa, most of Asia, and South America, is usually ignored.
I live in Canada. I read a headline in our local newspaper some time ago that was in large bold letters about a few dozen people who died in a Florida hurricane. That same week, 150,000 were killed and millions made homeless in floods in Bangladesh. The paper discussed this item on page six using small capital letters for a headline.
I watched TV for almost a year and listened to George Bush tell me that weapons of mass destruction were about to destroy me unless Saddam was put in his place. Newspapers had editorials about how good it was to consider taking out this butcher of Baghdad.
Most media is owned by private interests. There is no way to discern if you are really getting the whole truth, lies, or just part of the truth.
One example is the US media and how they have traditionally portrayed China. I have been to China. Things that stick in my mind were never mentioned by the press. I saw a healthy population, few overweight, a successful economy, many people who were proud of their nation, and little crime.... at least compared to the crime and terrible dirt I have seen in major Western cities. The point is not that China is great or terrible. The point is that information and access to information is VERY controlled in America and its neignbours. I realize there is government control in Chna. I do not see it as so different from the West as you might imagine.
SO...... when I see people complaining about this site and that information is controlled here....... I think the complainers are losing the forest for the trees. The owner of this site .... in my opinion seems to have a sense of good taste and if he wants to limit a few posts it is of no consequence.
If you think Americans are free perhaps you had better travel the world and see how others really live and think about you. You may find that Americans are NOT percieved as being either free or free thinking. There is much more to discuss here. I think Nils is a very patient gentleman for letting this freedom to post nonsense to continue under the guise of a false intellectualism by several posters
