When happened to "two front teeth"?  Kids were so much less demanding in my day.  I'll write to santa about the piano, and see if he has a spare one lying around.  Failing to obtain a steinway, will a pearl river do?

A Bosendorfer or Sauter would be nice.

Cash is a good idea.  I get a lot of stuff I have no use for every Christmas.  Cash can get stuff that is practical, and the money won't go to something I'll never use.

This year it breaks down into clothes, CD's and books.

Some of the books are of a religious nature.

Thank God (sorry to mention Him, but at least you can't now accuse pianistimo of having first introduced Him here!) that I'm a Scot, then. I'll take that Bösendorfer 290, then, thanks (maybe then I'd even do some practice - not that that or anything else would ever turn me into anything remotely resembling what anyone could understand and recognise as a pianist).

Best,

It really is most kind of you to think of sending this particular entreaty to Santa on my behalf, but I rather fear that the specific condition that you impose upon the delivery to me will almost certainly disqualify me from any likelihood of actually getting the glorious instrument; I'm more than sure that our susanistimo, among others, will agree that, in some respects, I am almost completely lacking in the kind of "good"ness required...

Ah, well...

well, i know one thing that i am getting from my girlfriend (and what she is getting back is the same).   ;D  I'm looking forward to that.   :D

As a Jew, I think it is perhaps one of the first Christmases I have really looked forward to.

I think perhaps, to be religiously equal-handed, you should have asked "What do you want for the holidays?"

Other than that, I guess I would like to be able to walk.   :-\

I don't want a thing from anyone...  That's only because I don't want to get anyone anything either.  I just went to the mall yesterday for a few things and the consumer frenzy is disgusting, I want as little to do with that crap as possible.

Instead we'll go out and have a dinner.

I am going to fast before Christmas this year, like I do every year.

I hope it will be not too hard.

If it is, it will be "hard and fast" (which is an English expression that isn't actually intended, by the way, to describe the manner in which some poeple play certain works of Liszt, either...)

That's stupid.

Actually, not eating for a few days is very hard. It is a mental difficulty. After about a day you can only think about food and about eating.

What do I want for Christmas? Well - for starters, how's about a Bible, some written contradictions to some of the texts therein, some exotic foods, some longer shorts, some alternative therapies and, of course, above all, "pianistimo"; what a wonderful forum this is?...

If you're quite sure that you cannot comprehend it for whatever reason, silly or otherwise, it may be less amusing that you thought!

You are misreading that, obviously. I do know 'quite surely' what I found amusing. I just don't know why.

And since no one really knows what humour is and how it works this is not quite unexpected.

alistair, i am not a commonidty.  but, i did hear on sesame street yesterday a song that went 'all i want for christmas is you... i don't want a hula hoop or blah blah blah ... cause that would be boring... all i want for christmas is you....'  i thought it was kinda cute - even though i don't celebrate christmas per se either.  but, i do get into the shopping frenzy afterwards.  after x-mas sales are the best.  usually - i tell my friends and family i'm sending presents late - and then i buy them after x-mas.  terrible - i know.  but, you know what...

in the russian orthodox belief - christmas is jan 6th.  so, for my husband's family it works out fine.  not sure the reasoning behind it.  everyone has had eggnog and nobody really cares if it was a few days short or long.  in fact, why doesn't someone start a trend and just have x-mas the day after thanksgiving?  just an idea.

le poete morante- what is the matter with you, now?  did you break a leg, too?  why can't you walk?  or, is this a disability that's been with you a while.  in any case - prayers for you that you can walk.  it's a pain going down stairs on your backside.  i almost wore a couple of pants out that way until i could stand on my leg.  it takes a lot of patience.  even now - when my daughter jumps onto me - i'm cringing and saying 'don't jump on my bad leg.'  she's pretty good about it now - and only hits me from the left side.
