Reasons for playing
on: December 04, 2006, 01:08:56 AM
Probably done before, but I was thinking about it recently.

For performances -- to do recitals, etc.

For a CD, to archive.

For enjoyment.

For learning -- either to learn more repertoire or to improve piano skills.

Because it's your job.
Favorite new teacher quote -- "You found the only possible wrong answer."

1) because we enjoy it

2) because it brings joy to others

3) so we can accompany singers

4) so we can play for weddings, funerals, and church services

5) so we can jam with our friends

6) because it's the way I make my living

7) because it's therapy

8) just because playing the piano is part of who we are!     If you are a teacher, then i ask "Can you imagine not teaching?" I can't .     If I were a millionaire , I would still have a studio and teach.   I would still play at nursing homes.    I'm happy to say that I enjoy every day and I love life.    Before I was a teacher and when I was in the "corporate world of work" , I coudn't say that.   I'm thankful.

All of the above.

And one other reason: because it helps for my RSI.

Apart from what was listed above I would also have to add because of the challenge...
Whenever I find a tough spot in a music, I often have to play the thing untill I get it right.
It's not that I want to do it to improve my technique, its just there and I have to solve it
It's like a puzzle
I am perfectly normal, it is everyone else who is strange.

I work in a field unconnected to music and one that's often stressful and high pressure.

So for me piano is a release and a relief and relaxation;  it prepares me for the day or helps me unwind at the end of it.

I play piano because if I didn't I'd feel like there was something missing in my life.

Piano sharpens my mind and fulfils my spirit. An hour of Bach every morning is good for the soul.

Bach almost persuades me to be a Christian.
