Favorite movement from a symphonic work?
on: December 09, 2006, 02:41:28 AM
This doesn't really fit in with the Polls etc. so I am posting it here.

At the moment, what is your favorite non-piano-solo-related-at-all movement from a symphonic work?

Rachmaninoff second symphony third mvt. Listen to the clarinet solo.  :) One of the most beautiful melodies ever for me.

Eventhough this forum is for non-piano stuff. I would put non-piano music stuff in one of the other forums. Either 'misc' or 'repetoire'.

I don't really know. I like Scriabin and Beethoven. Can decide a piece and a movement.

Wait, Penderecki No.7 movement five.

Beethoven, Symphony #7 mvt.2

Classic. My favorites right now are the 1st mvt's of Brahms' 1 and 4.

;D I was just contemplating doing a piano transcription of that the other day, me thinks it might be possible although I haven't really started looking it over in any depth.

I love VW's and Sibelius' 5th symphony at the moment.
Never look at the trombones. You'll only encourage them.

Take Your Seat! Trifonov Plays Brahms in Berlin

“He has everything and more – tenderness and also the demonic element. I never heard anything like that,” as Martha Argerich once said of Daniil Trifonov. To celebrate the end of the year, the star pianist performs Johannes Brahms’s monumental Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Philharmoniker and Kirill Petrenko on December 31.
