Steinway "O" model advice
on: December 09, 2006, 07:59:32 PM
Hi. This is my first posting on this site so hi!
I am considering buying a model "O" (5' 10") 1904 Steinway which I like but I have one major concern...there is a gap of around 2mm between each of the ivories. It plays fine and it has been reconditioned. Is this something I should be concerned about?
Thank you.

find out who reconditioned the piano,, chances are its some little mom and pop shop, I'd try to get as much info as possible as to what was done to the piano, and if the price is right, and the 2mm gap doesn't affect your playing,, then dont worry about it.
however, doesnt the appearance bother you?

Hi. Thanks very much for your reply. It's a large store so some comfort there. I know what you mean re looks but they are all regular and it gives it character I guess!
I just can't get my head round how it can have spaces but not have it's playing impared.
Maybe the fact I'm asking says I'm not totally sure...!
