No one knows who he is.

Apperently because of this he is probably still alive in China. Sources in China report that he was never executed.

The guy was pulled away by people. Apparently normal people trying to safe him.

China wants to erease him from history. Most Chinese people have never seen this famous footage. If you use google image through a Chinese proxy and type in 'Tiananmen Square' you won't find anything while if you do it without the cencorship, provided by this american company called google, you will only find the picture of the guy in front of the tanks.

He's just a msytery.

we talked about how it is censored on the internet in China and what not.I heard that a few ppl did get crushed by tanks (uncertain if true). That's the bad part about trying to strive for democracy, that ppl will get killed in the process.I guess the Chinese gov't wasn't having it and had to let the protesters know who's calling the shots, and those shots took innocent lives.this a shame

i remember watching a bit from that (basically the tank man part) on the news in 1989.  my son was born july 18 - the same day that the stealth bomber made it's first flight, too.  i saved the front page of the paper (as i did with all  my kids).  it had a stealth bomber on the front.

this guy really was amazing.  i was thinking that when i first saw it.  i kept expecting him to move out of the way - for fear of the tanks.  i didn't realize they stopped their engines.  or that he jumped on top of the tank.  that's amazing or crazy.  i'm thinking quite amazing - since he was one lone person and WAS risking all to make a statement.

Just a thought and only a thought. If he was to get ran over by the tank, i think it would started the Chinese revolution, because his death would have inspired even many more ppl to stand up to the gov't and fight for what they believe in...He had sum b*lls to jump in front of that tank like that and to even jump on it.

Ooh, last night I didn't watch that video. I see now almost everything I said is redundant. I don't know if people were actually crushed by tanks or not but the army in the end just whiped clean the square using machine guns.

This guy we was propably just a poor Chinese peasant while the protesters were students; rich kids.

Anyway, the square was whiped clean and tanks were just 'dancing' around continuesly. And this guy just went shopping or something, like he did every once in a while, and he runs into these tanks, knowing partly what happened two days before.

Pianistimo claims that this man made a stance. He didn't. He probably didn't know someone was taping all of it. Let alone what the footage would mean to the world.

Something just snapped and he stepped in front, not caring about what would happen.

Well, as I am watching this movie now I see it is part of a documentry I once saw on the whole event. So even more redundance in this message.

Anyway, the student resistance movement was crushed and it failed.

We always like to think that we live in some special era. China today is just like China in every other part of history. The people in the US like to view China as some amazing communistic evil. But communism was just a short while. Now it's just the same as it has always been.
