Pieces with unavoidable repetition of one finger
on: December 24, 2006, 11:59:04 AM
We see this in dohnanyi exercises, but are there any pieces with extended use of one finger rapidly repeating?

It is interesting that speed, for the most part, is produced by the coordination and combination of the speeds of numerous individual fingers...but barely ever are these fingers required to repeat singularly and rapidly..?

Just an interesting thing I've been thinking about.

I'm not sure about that one..arent they repeated double notes/chords?

In any case, even notes singularly repeated are played primarily with the motion of the wrist.

Rarely ever is a single finger so taxed as the wrist has come to be during octaves and chords.

I would say, there's no difference of the movement between a single note/an octave/a chord, if it's repeated multiple times.

I do it  by shaking the forarm - very little of course - the wrist is relaxed (it is used as 'shock absorber', so only a part of the force is transmitted to the key(s) to get the necessary dynamic level)
