Alkan's Le Quatre Ages - 50 ans

Anybody play this piece?  How slow is "extremely slow"?  I've just gotten Hamelin's recording, and while the whole disc is amazing as expected, I feel he plays it too fast, coming in at about 8.5 minutes for the five pages.  I'm excited to learn it, because it seems like you get such a huge amount of heaviness and emotion out of a rather simply written score, no?
