I wouldn't want to be playing that. I'd probably be dead by the intermission.

That's one helluva program..
Bach - Partita No.2
Scriabin - Etude 8/12
Debussy - L'isle Joyeuse
Liszt - Un Sospiro

Goal:
Prokofiev - Toccata

ive heard about that program. ive also heard of one where he played all of ligeti's etudes (i think there were 16 or so at the time) at a private recital, with ligeti himself in the audience. still, i woulda done everything possible to be there, had i not been 2 years old when he played all this.

A great program, I didn't know he had played the Rzewski as long ago as that.

it happened back in the early 90s. alistair hinton mentioned, or verified, that this indeed did happen on the sorabji forum before its crash. and yes, this was a shock to me too, for i had no idea that hamelin played any ligeti.

Hamelin shouldn't play more Weber and Hanon programs in public.

When I briefly spoke with Marc-Andre he mentioned somewhat tongue-in-cheek that he had no desire to play Sorabji in public anymore.  I suppose after 15? years of a composer like that you hit a wall.

i spoke with him about this too and he said that he wouldnt want to spend many years learning such a shot piece, proportionally speaking. he said that for one to learn opus clavicembalisticum, it would take an average of about 10-15 years, and he doesnt want to devote a large part of his life to one piece.
