Electric guitar has only one: Shawn Lane

People like Steve Vai and Michael Angelo don't come close and they have admitted this. They all worship Lane.

Allan Holdsworth and Pat Metheny are close though.

There are 10,000 people faster than Yngwie.

Doens't mean they are better or more virtuoso in general. Yngwie has an awesome vibrato.

I don't know how it is in the classical music but in rock/jazz/fusion guitar the good guys lose. The best guitarists in the world, who are actually beyond imagination skilled, are playing in wedding and top40 bands. Some don't even have CDs out.

Of course there are tons of good known people that have.

Also:

Percussion: Zakir Hussain
Mandolin: U Srinivas
(carnatic) Violin: L Shankar

yeah i can play as fast as yngwie  8)
but when you say other people are faster, they arent that much faster are they? only a tad  ;)

my favourite guitarist is al di meola, interestingly all he wanted to be when he was younger - was to be the fastest guitarist in the world.

It depends on how you define fast. You can play a easy thing very fast or play a very hard thing a little slower.

I have heard alot of guitarists and Shawn not only had the most amazing technique(he had all that technique at age 16), he was the most incredible musician ever. He was a huge fan of romantic piano music and indian improvisation and he grew up in the blues/rock capital of the world and he ended up playing fusion.
