Seeking opinions on options for silent pianos
on: January 03, 2007, 01:49:38 PM
Hi friends,
I am giving away to a friend my electric piano (a Kawai ES-X), and plan to upgrade my silent piano. I like to have one to play late in the evening without disturbing the rest of the family, but the ES-X has grown too fake for my taste.
Do you have knowledge or opinions about what other options I have available? The closest to a grand action feel, the better. I have no use for bells and whistles, but if they come along, I have no prejudice either.
Thanks in advance.

Silent piano is ultimately the closest to a real piano feel. Every thing else would be digital, like your ES-X.
You can look into the 'Clavinova' series (CLP series) pianos from Yamaha, they are digital, however, its claimed to have the most realistic action to date in the digital piano market, the GH3 (graded hammer 3) action.
this is what yamaha has to say for it:
"The reason higher level pianists desire a grand piano's action is for its better response and much faster repetition speed. This improved action allows for a world class concert instrument.
To address this issue, Yamaha has created the patented Graded Hammer 3 action. This update of the GH action adds sensors to the existing system, recreating such acoustic responses as damper position and faster repetition speeds. With this level of realism, any pianist will find the GH3 action is the best at recreating any type of performance."
hope this helps.
