I have not bought from him, but I live nearby and stop by his store regularly.  He offers a good deal and has expanded the choices he offers, so now he has some higher end stuff, like some very nice Schimmels.

He is a decent guy.  Very down to earth.  Prices are fair for each used piano.  My impression is that he caters to low-budget buyers.  Every now and then you can find a steal in his store (I particularly remember a M&H and a Knabe that combined must have lasted no more than a couple of days on the floor and a nice 7 ft. Kawai that was gone in less than a week).
Money does not make happiness, but it can buy you a piano.  :)

Well that's good to know.  When I decide to upgrade I will certainly check his
supply of Kawai's.

I may be mistaken, but I believe that his Kawais are so-called "grey market" pianos. If that's a concern to you, you may want to be cautious. If not, that's OK too.

What exactly do you mean by grey market?

A so called "grey market" piano is one which is sold and used in its country of manufacture (usually Japan) and then when the owner gets rid of it, the piano is shipped to another country for resale. Yamaha will not warantee these pianos, though I don't know about Kawai (I would be surprised if they did, however). Yamaha claims that pianos manufactured in Japan are "seasoned for destination" and the wood-curing/drying process is different for pianos that they sell in Japan vs. the US or other countries. THerefore, if a failure of the instrument occurs, they assume no liability.

The subject of "grey market" pianos is a contentious one, and everyone seems to have an opinion. Though there are many who would never buy such a piano, there are many who have, and are very satisfied.

Great explanation.  I certainly appreciate your time.  I do believe that Rick Jones
warranties his pianos for 10 years with full trade in value for a lifetime.  Not a
bad deal.  With a warranty like that you can hardly go wrong.
