Hatred
on: January 05, 2007, 04:53:31 AM
There's been a huge increase in flames in the last six months.  Can we all just hold our anger back a little?  I understand that some posters can be annoying(myself obviously excluded ;)), but that doesn't mean that every thread has to devolve into an attack on Pianistimo, Debussy, Ahinton or whoever has peeved your pet.  If someone's posts annoy you, it's very easy to ignore them.  It's not quite as easy for others to do if your brilliant witty reply(worthy of Oscar Wilde no doubt) turns the thread into a giant fight.  In the past several weeks there have been a few threads that looked interesting to me that were destroyed by that sort of pettiness.  At bare minimum, if someone consistently pisses you off, make a new thread for your rant, so the rest of us can ignore it(and possibly Nils delete it.)  Anyway, that sums up my personal rant.

To "fan the flames" used to be (and, for that matter, still is) an expression meaning to calm down an over-heated situation; the internet connotation of "flame" means that, on a forum such as this one with no shortage of fervent admirers of this or that pianist, it is also now possible to "flame the fans".

Isn't the English language wonderful?!

Welcome back Alistair!  :) Oh you guys talk so much about flames. ::) "Fan the flames and flame the fans" very good indeed. The flames could be the inner fire couldn't they? "What if" all the flaming people tried to not fan their flames but turning them into musical fire, the fire of creativity and enthusiasm?

Btw i voted for Kumbaya. "Yesterday" would also be very romantic or "House of the rising sun" . Or or...

Surely quite the opposite, Mr Hinton?  To make a difficult situation worse?

BTW welcome back - will you regail us with tales of daring do from your sojourn?

Actually, I've heard it used both ways, come to think of it. Anyway, flaming the fans is still a comparatively recent concept.

Thank you. No, I won't be doing that, because there are none such to relate; indeed, a very quiet time altogether - but most enjoyable, however.

Best,

Alistair

Even a quiet time is worthy of a liitle regail, no?

We are simple folk here ( at heart) and would still like to hear of the most interesting bits of your holiday, sir  ;D

Often, if you think, it's hatred - it's only the inability of someone, putting himself in the position of the person he fights against.
If it doesn't work - try something different!

I'm sure that you're not all simple folk here by any means. OK. In no particular order. A little Charentais veal. Long walks. Plentiful and varied bird life. Fine scenery. Wild goose at Christmastime. A little composition. A little more wine than composition. More long walks. Awareness of mild tinnitus due to frequent absence of noise. Air filled with wood smoke. -8 degrees at night and heavy hoar frosts by day. Being temporarily adopted by a French cat. Some Très Vieux Pineau des Charentes. Do I need to go on?
