i was thinking about that... that would be my choice at the moment.
Also, another choice I will probably have to make:
Lang Lang: https://www.necgroup.co.uk/visitor/whatson/DisplayWhatson.asp?i=4877&v=SYM&p=5
Or Hough: https://www.liverpoolphil.com/eventdetail.aspx?event_ID=1062

I might get to both, but my parents don't want to have to drive around too much! They are not into piano music very much...
Thanks,
Tom

I have seen that same Lang² recital, and dude, don't go there, ever. His Chopin llacks structure and tone color, his Schumann lacks any kind of character, his Mozart doesn't sparkle in any way and his Rachmaninoff was completely retarded. It was fun though, I couldn't stop laughing after him looking into the public while playing. And with a program like that, I wouldn't hesitate going to Hough.

Agreed. And do you REALLY want to see langlang play his screwed up Horowitz version of the rhapsody for the millionth time? I would be much more interested in Hough's Mephisto.

Brahms.  And definitely Hough!  Oooooh....you wouldn't want to accidentally record those Mendelssohn variations while you're there too(?)...and the Beethoven.....

trying to decide between lang lang and hough is like trying to decide between a circus monkey and a generic classical pianist. it should require no thought whatsoever.

that was the only reason that i might have wanted to go to see lang lang. I prefer lang's program, I have to say, more virtuoso showy stuff, but the hough is proper music. Concerts are for proper music so i think i will choose hough.
I do plan to accidentally slip a dictaphone i got for xmas into my pocket ;)

Stephen Hough! His mephisto is something unbeliveable! And the rest of program is nice and interesting. That would be my choice.

not having heard any of these pianists live - i'd prefer to just let 'fate' make the decision.  you know how you can plan to go to one - but something comes up - so you have to go to another.  maybe your life isn't like this - but often times - you end up hearing just exactly what you wanted to (and other times not).

everyone has their own particular 'slant' of performance.  i l istened to the youtube thing with lang-lang playing 'horses' with his father.  i was deeply touched by that and realized that no matter the bashing - there's always another side.  even if someone is more on the 'flashy' side - there is an inner personality and peace that they have with being WHO they are and not trying to mimic someone else.  i sensed that he and his father were very close (i mean who can play that top-notch with a parent - not many people) and that his father was an extremely musical personality, too.  i enjoyed the person nature of that performance very much as it let one into the inner person of lang-lang.

stephen hough seems like he'd be interesting to hear as well.  i never really choose between composer's per se - but more the performers that i want to hear #1 #2 #3.  but, if they are sold out - i don't think anything except - hmmm.  maybe i'm meant to hear the other person.
