SCRIABIN - etude 8 12
on: January 08, 2007, 11:37:13 AM
hey, I am new.
I love this etude (subject) and I was asking which kind of light etude can prepare me to begin this etude, too difficult for me in this moment.
Thanks

Look at Scriabin's etudes Op.2 No.1 or Op.8 No.11. Both are much easier than the D# minor, and are also in the same vein of Chopinesque romanticism that Scriabin liked so much in his early years.
Also, practice legato and non-legato octaves and LH jumps. All are prominent and ubiquitous in Op.8 No.12.

For Scriabin, I would say DEFINATELY be secure with your octaves!
I would necesarily say for this etude, but for early Scriabin in general, I think Chopin Prelude No 22 is useful.
For this etude though, perhaps Chopin's Nocturne Op72 might help, and Op48 No1.

John Bell Young has a teaching video on this. It's long (about 16 minutes) but rather interesting. It may help.

Hey, you know he is selling those videos?
I bought a load of them off him, a hundred or so. Seriously, they're a GOLDMINE for someone like me who doesnt have a teacher.
I think they were about $50. Well worth it imo.
