Pain???
on: January 09, 2007, 10:09:34 AM
A friend of mine is finding it painful to play the piano.  Apparently it may be swollen, and he doesn't know what to do about it.  He has already seen his local pharmacist, but he's still worried.  Any suggestions on what else he can do?

p.s.  He may have been practising alot these holidays, but I can't be sure.

Tell him to sit on a cushion.

Tell him to quit being a show-off and play with his hands like he's supposed to do. ;D

The piano is swollen? It's probably been left out in the rain.

What exaclty is swollen? the wrist? a finger? or some other part of the anatomy...
as i guess it's the wrist or the hand, he's probably doing someting wrong, very wrong, tensing up unnecessarily and playing pieces when he doesn't know them and therefore not taking precautions to remain relaxed while he's playing.

It's difficult to say anything particular without knowing the person and actually seeing the person of course, but the big guideline would be to completely unlearn and relearn all his technique (easier said than done!)
