I need some help with this song, quickly!
on: January 09, 2007, 09:11:05 PM
I've been asked to play this song, tomorrow!  :o

The problem is; it's been asked today, but I don't know the song and I don't have the sheet music, so I really need some help. I've been asked to play the right notes, until 1:00 in the song. After 1:00 in the song, I can do whatever I want, just stay in the same key etc.

Well, my problem is that I don't have Perfect or Absolute pitch. If someone could help me finding out the notes until 1:00 in the song, I would be very thankful. In return, I can share loads of sheet music/classical music/piano videos with you!

Grmpf, what stuff are you playing...   ::)

Ok, you don't need perfect pitch for this. The key is C major, I hope you figured that out. If not then you know it now. Apart from one place you need only these four chords C, G, a, and F. They actually appear in this order. If you don't know what chords are:

C: C - E - G
G: G - B - D
a: A - C - E
F: F - A - C

You can distribute the notes of each chord between your hands. Play around a bit to find out what sounds reasonable.

Now, first get the chord progression right by playing along with this masterwork. Don't think about the melody yet. At 0:46 on the word "angels" you need an additional e chord (E - G - B). All of this shouldn't be that hard.

Then you can add the melody. For a melody your first choice always are the notes of the chord you're playing at the same time, that's why you have to know them before. The piano melody starts g - e - c - d, where the first three notes come from the C chord and the last from the G chord that follows. The melody goes on d - c - g - e - d - c. Again, the remainder shouldn't be that difficult. If you don't get the melody perfectly right, find sth. similar that works with the chords - nobody will realize it.

Many thanks for your reply and help! This really helps me.

I've been asked to play this song. Normally, I prefer other kinda songs, but that doesn't matter right now. I've been asked to play this and I accepted the request. One of my problems is that I don't have a lot of band experience, so that's probably also a reason why I couldn't figure out the chord patterns.

You really helped me out, I just tried to play along with the song with all the information you gave me and I'm sure I'll have not too many problems today with the band!
