Philip Glass Etudes
on: January 12, 2007, 05:24:52 AM
Anyone heard these? I just bought them on iTunes. Not sure what I think yet.

Opinions?
My favorite piano pieces - Liszt Sonata in B minor, Beethoven's Hammerklavier, Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit, Alkan's Op. 39 Etudes, Scriabin's Sonata-Fantaisie, Godowsky's Passacaglia in B minor.

I like Glass, but tbh am not a huge fan of these pieces.  Usually enjoy his string works a lot more (quartets, violin concerto etc.)

Sorry, but this is f*cking garbage, no matter what the difficulty is. The ugly middle section makes it sound like Glass isn't even capable of holding his own shitty composing style intact.

That etude should be subtitled "Things a Composer Shouldn't Make the Right Hand Do"

Sometimes, when I'm very tired after practicing for two hours or so, I space off and improvise something exactly like that piece. It is so remarkably similar!

At least you have the decency not to publish it or call it an 'etude.'
