Sorry this is piano related, but I really love it when I sit at the piano and can suddenly play a tricky section of a piece that i've been struggling with for weeks. Somehow, something just clicks and it's there. Magic  ;D

oh.  you liked those?  i can give you the rest of it tonight or over the weekend.

i love it when surgeries go well.  i went in cringing at the thought of doctors poking around in  my husband's eye.  come to find out - the doctor does like 3 at one time (3 people that is) and is a superb doc.  my husband's cataract was actually visible to me from the outside (looked cloudy when you looked at his iris).  now, he's got one cute brown eye that is really clear!  these doctor's know what they are doing.  they even gave us a dvd of his surgery.  must be a pretty good doc to not be embarassed about what goes on during a surgery.  and, the best part is that my husband could see colors again more vividly.  his vision is still a little cloudy - but that's to be expected for the first day or so.

How incredibly tiresome! Frankly, I couldn't care less about correct or incorrect use of so-called "SDC" lingo per se here or anywhere else, any more than I could about expressions within it that allegedly /and/or purportedly seek to convey something usefully communicative and meaningful on this forum.

End...

You know Alistair, when I saw that you had a post in this thread I immediately knew it would be something directed towards me.  If you're going to waste your time inter-stalking me on a piano forum, the least you could do is send me a full frontal nudity shot or leave me breathy, sexually alluding private messages.  Why is it that for the past few days you seem to be on some personal mission to harass and annoy me?  Stop wasting my time Alistair.  Do you really think anyone cares that you don't care about the proper use of SDC lingo?  If you care so little, why did you waste your time responding to it?  Was anyone asking for your opinion on SDC dialect?  WELL THANK GOD WE KNOW HOW YOU FEEL!  Not only are you wasting anyone's time who read your post, you're off topic.  Besides, it was obvious I was being completely serious.  Oh, since you don't seem to be able to detect sarcasm, let me go ahead and tell you I was just being sarcastic.  Now quit bothering me and find something more productive to do with your time.  Like anything at all.  Shouldn't you be more constructive with the little time you have left, pops?

well, speaking of 'da SDC' as it is called (speed demon community) - i noticed many pictures - but are they pictures of members or is this a secret sorority that is full of 'pretenders.'  i mean - i want to meet this berezevsky and tell him that he plays too loud.  then, what what will he say to me?  i play too soft.  so, we're at an impasse.  i rather like to keep things low key.  i mean - if i was to give out any secrets - it wouldn't be to people who already know them.  i'm useful here.  over there - i'm a piece of rat bait.

You know Alistair, when I saw that you had a post in this thread I immediately knew it would be something directed towards me.
Your remarkable powers of observation apparently do you credit.

If you're going to waste your time inter-stalking me on a piano forum,
Since the remark I made - which, incidentally, was directed "to" you and not, as your "protesteth-too-much" expressions imply, "against" you - was so brief, it is clear that your word "if" is the most significant one here; I am not in the habit of wasting my time at all, still less on "inter-stalking" anyone (whatever that is supposed to mean) on a piano forum or anywhere else...

Why is it that for the past few days you seem to be on some personal mission to harass and annoy me?
Since I have been on nothing of the sort, I really have no idea whatsoever, so I am sorry to have to say that I am unable to answer your question; maybe you should instead try asking yourself...

Stop wasting my time Alistair.
On what? Your time - and how you use it - is your business, not mine or anyone else's; if you feel that you have wasted some of it in reading what I have written in respose to your contributions to this thread, then (a) your easy solution would presumably be not to read any more such responses (including this one, which others may still read if so they choose) and (b) unless you are a VERY slow reader - which, given your considerable knowledge of contemporary and other piano repoertoire, seems highly unlikely - the amount of time that you will have wasted in reading those very few words must surely be far too small to warrant such fuss (unless, of course, you have read them over and over again, which is, however, your prerogative rather than my wish)?

Do you really think anyone cares that you don't care about the proper use of SDC lingo?  If you care so little, why did you waste your time responding to it?  Was anyone asking for your opinion on SDC dialect?  WELL THANK GOD WE KNOW HOW YOU FEEL!
Do you know that anyone (or, by implication, everyone) doesn't? No, of course not. Nor does it matter all that much, really. It appears, however, that what you also seek to imply here is that no opinion on anything should be posted on this forum without it first being requested; there are, however, many thousands of instances of such uninvited opinion expressed by all sorts of people on this forum without inciting such protest and, in any case, the particular opinion that I expressed is one to which - and to whose expression - I am entitled and which appears not to have caused offence to anyone else...

Not only are you wasting anyone's time who read your post,
In your opinion - that is to say the opinion of one who appears to be prepared and qualified to write on behalf of the entire forum membership...

you're off topic.
And you're on topic?...

Besides, it was obvious I was being completely serious.
I did not - and do not - suggest otherwise.

Oh, since you don't seem to be able to detect sarcasm,
Again, in your opinion...

let me go ahead and tell you I was just being sarcastic.
I wasn't stopping you - and thank you for this most useful information (which statement should at least convince you that, even if I cannot "detect" sarcasm, I can at least dispense some, however mild)...

Now quit bothering me
I rather think you it is you who is bothering yourself here...

and find something more productive to do with your time.
Just as what you do with your time (and how) is your business, so what I do with mine (and how) is mine; you might usefully bear both facts in mind...

Shouldn't you be more constructive
See above on use of time. Bear in mind also that the extent of constructiveness of use of time is a matter of opinion, in that what may be constructive to me may not necessarily always seem so to others and vice versa.

with the little time you have left?
Bear in mind also that no one - not even Elliott Carter - really knows how much time he/she has left, so your remark here seems rather meaningless...

Ever not interested in what you have to say
Though that is, of course, your personal prerogative, you nevertheless appear to have found sufficient interest in it to warrant writing all that you have.

or giving it any baring,
What is this supposed to mean?

Now - let's return to the topic, as you yourself suggest - perhaps as in "I really love it when..." people stay on topic...

Best,

Alistair

Well, I've inadvertantly offended the sensibilities of the following:

1) those who respect the heritage of the English language and understandably prefer it uncorrupted.

2) those who cultivate the avant garde both in music and dialect and view SDC members as proponents of the latest riff on English as a changing entity, forever in flux.

3) perhaps pianistimo, for whom I was genuinely expressing gratitude for her generous sharing of fingerings in "Un Sospiro" elsewhere on this forum.  I used my rudimentary and admittedly silly version of SDC-speak because I thought this lady -- unafraid of the new -- would, well, get a kick out of it.  She and I, as the joke was meant to go, are the least likely candidates to be offered membership in the SDC fellowship!  And we very may well be the poorer for that.

4) to anyone out there doing a Ph.D. dissertation on SDC-speak, which, as I understand it, is the formalizing and expansion of Afro-American "gansta rap," elevated to hysterical comedic proportions by that British lunatic-savant Sacha Baron Cohen (I think that's his name) in the character of Ali G, aka the creator of the infamous "Borat" film -- hugely popular here in the US, I humbly apolgize for appearing to disparage this new dialect.  Having worked with graduate students in NYC who are pursuing doctorates in "Queer Theory" and other hitherto unfamiliar disciplines, I assume these days that anything is possible . . .

. . . including my ability to offend.  Forgiveness requested, s'il vous plait.

Without being pompous or superior about it, I suppose that am one such - but you haven't offended me...

2) those who cultivate the avant garde both in music and dialect and view SDC members as proponents of the latest riff on English as a changing entity, forever in flux.
I don't have an opinion on such people and their thoughts or modes of expression and, for the record, am not, nor ever have been, a member of that forum.

I cannot comment on the likelihood of yours or Pianistimo's candidacy of SDC, or on whether or not you may have offended her, although i suspect that you have done so no more than you have offended me.

Yes, indeed - a master's degree in timeshare management is probably less than inconceivable these days. I think that you portray the context here rather well, actually - and I still wonder if the egregious Mr Baron Cohen is any relation to the distinguished neuroscientist Simon Baron Cohen (although, for the latter's sake, I rather hope not) - does noyone here know?

. . . including my ability to offend.  Forgiveness requested, s'il vous plait.

Simon Baron Cohen is indeed related to Sacha Baron Cohen. I think he is a cousin of some sort - I am told there are other moderately famous Baron Cohens who are also related.

coming back - i rather thought i should be the one to express apology!  i mean, to be at least offerred a listen to my music over there counts for quite a lot.  and, i don't think they are 'pretenders.'  i wrote this in a moment of frustration over my own pretending, actually.  i could be a lot better if i practiced more.  you see - the people over there have actual careers in piano performance.  and therefore - i would still be bait (although more likely something like what the cat drags in).  so... i am over here and over there (mentally).  i mean - i would like to 'be there' someday.  as in - have a career.  right now - it's sort of in flux.  but, i really want to play as well as berezevsky and rondes le sylphes and quantum and all the dudes and gals.  i recognize their superiority.  therefore - there is no question that someday - in my own time - i'll march into steinway hall and demand a hearing from a small quantity of superb guests and ask for a plaque.  but, i have to come up with something to play.  it shall be leroy anderson's pc and maybe something else perky.  i don't really want to play at carnegie - but kimmel center with the philadelphia orchestra would be fine.

I really love it when I wake up to a burning orange sunrise like this morning.

I really love it when Dusty looks into my eyes with love.

I really love it when Dusty jumps off the sofa because I'm stroking him too much, but then comes back because he wants more.

I really love it when things go according to plan.

I really love it when I can watch the next episode of Desperate Housewives on E4 straight after the one on C4.

I really love it when I learn a new poi trick.

I really love it when progress is made.

I really love it when I feel so close to someone that I can talk to them about absolutely anything (like the odd act of men instinctively cupping their crotch whilst watching TV) and not feel embarrased.

I really love it when I'm able to talk about something and not get paranoid about giving across the wrong message.

I really love it when someone passing in the street smiles at me.

I really love it when I smile at someone passing in the street and they smile back.

I really love it when a little thing of nature amazes me.

I really love it when I tell other people of the things I really love. :)

I spend a lot of time doing this at work and you'd be amazed how it surprises people...

Henrah, I do envy you your pusscat. I'm not allowed pets under the terms of my lease, such a shame as I was going to acquire a couple of rescue kittens. It always makes me smile to read about you and Dusty.

... the clouds are pink and gold at sunset, as they are tonight.

I saw an amazing sunset on my way to a band practice earlier today. I took a mental picture *click* haha

And yes, I smile at strangers. Though I think once a smile has been shared, we are no longer strangers in the strongest and purest sense.

I have some pictures of Dusty I took a while ago when a friend lent me her Canon 350D. I'll upload them and start a new topic for you elspeth, and others who want to see him. He's such a cutey :)

Here's another set.

I really love it when my friends confide in me with their problems.

I really love it when I can help those who seek help.

I really love it when those who don't seek help are appreciative of it anyway.

I really love it when a new level is reached.

I really love it when everything comes together.

I really love it when I'm so involved in something that nothing can stop me.

I really love it when I walk at a fast pace and dodge through human traffic.

I really love it when I see love in and between other people.

I really love it when I'm able to appreciate all different interpretations of the same work and not resort to favouritism.

I really love it when I discover an interpretation of a work that completely opens my eyes.

I really love it when I resolve my own problems through seeking to solve those of others.

I really love it when nature surprises me.

I really love it when I find the last timeout in a big box of Cadbury Heroes. Like right now ;D

I really love it when Dusty holds my finger. Like right now ;D
