THE BEST recording is Sviatoslav Richter IMO!!  Prokofiev told Richter : "Perhaps this young man would agree to play my Fifth Concerto, which has always been fiasco and never proved a success? Perhaps he'll plays it and auidences will like it?" of course, Richter's playing is stunning!!

I like Michel Béroffs version as well, quite different from Richters. Richters is still the definitive recording, i think.

Kapell = no.3 (& Ashk/Argerich)
richter = no.5

It often seems that the first hearing becomes the definitive one to my ears.  My first hearing was by Richter.  He is difficult to surpass.

Aha I would randomly say the Byron Janice's recording on the Mercury label is the best for no. 3

horacio gutiérrez probably has the best complete set. i have no qualms about any of his recordings of these concertos. however, richter still owns for no. 5.

I really do not mean to be rude, but that's not how you spell "Janis" in this context, you know! - but never mind that - what about the other thread opn this forum that is principally addressed to you to answer?
