heres a non-illegal free site where you can download most of alkan's works-

https://piano.francais.free.fr/alkan/04_partitions_en.html

so now theres no excuse not to learn any alkan!  ;)

tell me your experiences with the music there, when youve tried some.....

Comme_le_vent you are my hero, there is not a doubt in my mind. I love Alkan possibly more than any other composer (Liszt and Scriabin are right behind though) and have been searching for months for the Trois Morceaux dans le Genre Pathetique. I will admit they're still out of reach for me but I had a hell of a time sight reading a bit of the "Morte" this afternoon. This site is the BEST...
Also I've read a few of your posts-the Symphony for Solo Piano is probably my favorite piece of music as well, though I also like a few other things, namely Mazeppa and "St. Francis Walking on the Waves"-you know, I'm with you on the loud tragic stuff (I'd list a hundred other pieces but my brain isn't working correctly at the moment). All of that, though, and I haven't heard the Concerto for Solo Piano yet, what kind of moron am I? I do have the music though, in that Dover book with the Symphony...as if I could play either one of those.
Well, thanks for posting the site, that's amazing.

yes there are, search for marc-andre hamelin cds - they are a veritible encyclopedia of neglected(and great) music - formemost examples include - medtner, godowsky,villa-lobos, sorabji, and even marc-andre himself.
