Slightly annoyed
on: January 26, 2007, 01:22:34 PM
I recently purchased a copy of Rachmaninoff's Moments Musicaux from an online shop. A couple of people recommended the Boosey and Hawkes edition, so I searched for that one, and found it, but it also said Simrock edition (maybe one is the distributor? i'm not sure). I got slightly confused, but ordered it anyway, coz I thought it would be all the same, plus it was significantly more expensive, so I thought I would be getting a good edition.

WRONG.

When I received it and read through it quickly, I was a bit disappointed, I have already found 2 significant errors (wrong notes), alot of the engraving is messy and some of the page turns are not very well thought out (I know it can't always be possible to have a good page turn), but i'm only comparing what I have to what i've seen on those free sheet music sites, and those seem much better, but I wanted to buy a legit copy.

So anyways, I ordered another copy of it today because I cant return it (past the 30 days, because it took like 2 months to arrive), I ordered the Schirmer edition which was like under half price of what this one was, so hopefully this one will be better, and if not.. then oh well!!

/end rant

You should be able to make a case for returning it if you didn't get it for 2 months in spite of their 1-month returns rule. It is, after all, hardly reasonable to expect you to return something within a time when you haven't even received the goods. I would get in touch with their customer services, explain the time lag and that you'd like to return it, and see what they say. I'm bloody-minded about these things, so I'd argue it - especially as it was an expensive edition!
Go you big red fire engine!

Greetings.

I am studying one of them currently no4. I am happy with my edition because all of the fingering they offer seem very fair and are approved by my teacher (of course we made a few adjustions, but otherwise it is very okay.) You should first check the many editions they have for free on the internet. Perhaps you will be satisfied with them. I am very suspicious about bying anything online and generally avoid doing so. Many things could occur such as wrong editions, wrong text, or something entirely different. That is why I would go to a local music shop or search around for the notes and see if I like the edition. My advice is to look oneself before making a purchase and be careful about bying online.
