i broke my right wrist on friday so i am in need of some LH repertoire. anyone know of any good pieces? dont worry about difficulty

so sorry to hear it!  be careful with it so it heals properly.  my son broke his left wrist twice.  unfortunately, he is left handed - which made writing his homework assignments that much harder with his other hand.  once was jumping off of an electrical box the wrong way when he was very young and once was playing basketball several years later. 

seems that some doctors - once they know you play piano - will continue to take x-ray and make sure it is healing properly.

**the rotten thing that happened with my son is that his last broken wrist with the basketball incident happened on a friday and they couldn't schedule him for surgery until monday!  so they had to break it again.  yikes!  that was really a horrible weekend for him.  thankfully, he was completely out when they fixed it.

I love that piece. It always sends a shiver down my spine because it was the piece played by the disembodied hand in "The beast with 5 fingers".

I played this when i hurt my left hand.

lol it is a wonderful piece isnt it. i think i'll learn that, godowsky chopin opus 10 no 6, and i might try and find that scriabin, it looks really interesting. thanks for all the suggestions!

try alkan op 76 no. 1 etude. maybe also the first movt of corigliano's etude fantasy.

Having listened to your Gaspard de la Nuit, I would suggest four pieces that should get you through the 6-12 weeks.


Ravel Concerto for Left Hand
Scriabin Two Pieces for the Left Hand Op. 9
Alkan Trois Grandes Etudes Op. 76 No. 1 "For the Left Hand"
Corigliano Etude Fantasy Etude No. 1


They are all great pieces.



Am really sorry to hear about your wrist =/  I know how much it sucks to have a hand out of commission.  You should definitely check into the Alkan though.  It's one of the best romantic-era pieces ever written, and if you have the determination to learn the whole set it's extremely rewarding

I would suggest a brilliant piece by Anton Arensky, an Etude in E flat major. Not often played, but it's beautiful. (I think you can find it at https://www.imslp.org).

The right hand part is really easy and won't take you much time to master when you're ready for it, and until then, the left hand part will (hopefully) keep you busy.

Learn Chopin op10 no1 and op25 no6 with the LH! It's great fun. Then when you can do them, so OP10no1 in octaves when your RH heals! You'll be amazed at the results. Op10 no1 with LH will heal all troubles with LH apregios
