choosing a prelude and fugue
on: January 27, 2007, 06:13:07 PM
i just recently finished learning Bach's D major prelude and fugue from well tempered clavier book one. I was wondering which one to move onto next.
I could always ask my teacher but why wait until next week when I could get the answers now.
thanks
PS: preferably an easier one (not no1 in C major)

heh, that's the one I play, coincidentally. one of the least challenging fugues, in my opinion.
you could play the no.6 in d minor, to get away from major keys a bit. i've been dabbling in the c# major and c minor ones unsuccessfully.. prelude 2 is too hard AND fugue 3 is definitely too much for me
none of them are easy IMO though, but they're all beautiful huh?

The C minor from Book I isn't too hard, relatively. I think the fugue is only 3 voices.
The trick to the C minor prelude, I think, lies in the way you play the fifth finger in relation to the rest of the group.

My suggestion: Prael & Fugue G Minor

Ooh but the first fugue is soo much fun to play. I'm working on it now, the Prelude will be my first piece to play in a competition
, after that the fugue ofcourse. It indeed gets really nasty when there are a lot of theme starts in one measure, but it's not extremely omgwtfimpossibleoctzily difficult!

That's one of my favorites too, from book 1. Also the C#m fugue. I get chills just thinking about it, one day I will be able to play them well.

I like the B-flat Major (Book 1), and not too difficult. Also the G major, no 15 in Book 1.
