Strechting your fingers and wrist
on: January 31, 2007, 10:12:14 PM
I have resantly start to play more often and longer each day and I notice that my fingers are getting stiff. Is it normal to strech your fingers and wrist after playing for a wile?

Getting stiff is pretty common (especially when it's cold).
Generally I like to sort of shake out my hands and stretch a bit every 30 minutes or so- do some hand/arm/shoulder stretches, etc. This helps to keep you from getting stiff and relieves any built up tension (not just your fingers can get stiff or tense, but your entire arms, shoulders, back, neck...). I've found that taking short mini-breaks helps me to work for longer periods of time more effectively, too.

If you take two adjacent fingers and gently spread them farthur and farthur apart a few times every practice session, you should find that it's easier to stretch your finger further and they don't become as tired/
