Clementi - Sonata in C major
on: February 04, 2007, 09:52:36 PM
I have no idea what the opus is, only that its C major. It starts with a big C major chord followed by an ascending staccato run in thirds i think. The title says Op.36 No.3, but that is the opusnumber of 6 sonatinas.

Anyone have a clue here?

It is indeed the Op33 no 3 cause it is the same as the one Horowitz plays.

I have not got the score, but it is not hard to get as it is published by Schirmer and is still in print.

In Klaus Wolters' "Handbuch der Klavierliteratur zu zwei Händen" the author tells, that Clementi did sell in a few cases the same compositions under different opus numbers to several publishers  :o  ;D

So there are the wellknown Six Sonatinas  op.36

and also Three Sonatas op.36, also published as op.32

There is also a Sonata in A Major op.33 no.3 (published also as op.1 no.5)

In Edition Peters, 12 Sonatas are published in 2 books.

The Sonata C Major op.36 no.3 (in the Horowitz recording numbered as op.33 no.3) is the first of book 2. (I only have book 1)

Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges.
