Transcription - Brahms lullaby, op.49/4
on: February 06, 2007, 10:31:18 PM
Several transcriptions of this seem to be available but I have no idea which one to choose. I have listened to Rubinstein's recording which I like a lot (Amazon preview here). Apparently it was his own version, but I didn't find the sheets anywhere (e.g. Sheet Music Plus). Any other preferences or hints where to get the Rubinstein transcription?

I have only ever seen transcriptions by Cortot and Grainger.

Rubinstein might not have written it down, but a decent transcriber would probably do it for you for an absurd sum of money.

Thanks thal. If there's no written Rubinstein version, I'll look for another edition -- no money for paying a transcriber and no talent/patience for doing it on my own :-)
Any idea where to get Cortot or Grainger? Sheet Music Plus doesn't seem to have them. I'll ask at my local store, but they are not the best score-scouts either.....

Well, the Grainger I have was published by Schott & Co, so you might be able to get a copy from them.

As for the Cortot, that was published by Foetisch Freres who i have never heard of.

My sight readin is pretty naff, but the Cortot looks the more interesting.

Thanks again  8)
So I'll ask for the Cortot in my local store. I thought everything by Cortot is published by Salabert, which is easy to get. Never heard of this other publisher. I hope I'll find it. While I'm searching, any additional input still appreciated, of course!
Cheers,
  Tobias

Leopold Godowsky edition. Fairly easy.
Trying to return to playing the piano.
