Help! Article Title Needed!
on: February 08, 2007, 03:55:14 AM
I'm writing an article on the benefits of duet playing and how to incorporate it into teaching. Any creative title ideas? Something other than "The Benefits of Duet Playing" which is quite a boring title.

duets in applied music lessons
off the beaten path - duets and trios
just du et
(that's mine)
duet or duel?
where can you find an equal partner. have there ever been rivals to beat the labeque sisters. i once heard them and thought they must also practice diving together or something. they share so much 'second nature' in their interpretations.
i would like to read more about duets and natural born sister/brother pairs because they have #1 genetically similar ideas? #2 similar hand structure? #3 opportunity to practice together
but, for half * sightreading skills - it's ok. just a little depressing.

These are great ideas from "pianistimo" and "ada" and I can't immediately think of any others; in the absence of any more, might I have the temerity to suggest a couple of brief amendment to two that have so far been suggested?
Maybe "Four hands are better than two" and "Let's Du et" (the latter being the title of a well known Cole Porter song).
Oh, wait abit - what about an Orwellian take:
"Four hands good - two hands bad"?
or even
"The Joys of Four-play"?
Oh - maybe not...
Best,
Alistair

Thanks! I chose "Double Trouble...." from Ada, though I was seriously tempted to choose "Just Duet." I'll see what my teacher thinks. My teacher is well-known in the pedagogy world. He said he may try to send our class articles to different publications to see if any of us could get published. Somehow I think the chances of that are pretty slim...but we'll see. Anyway, thanks for the thoughts. To me, titles are the hardest things to write.

glad you have the title now. hope you put lots of work into it and get it published. what great fun. don't you think the most fun comes from actually having someone you can work with three days or more a week. it's terrible to try to get something together at a moment's notice.
ahinton, your idea is worse than mine for publication purposes - but it made me laugh a lot.

How about this:
It's easier to play the two-piano reduction of Mazeppa than the Transcendental Etude!
Okay, just kidding, but you should still include that in the paper.

Well, I had the article written, but I just couldn't think of a title before turning it in. I'm hoping after it gets graded that my teacher will sort of re-work what needs reworking and then maybe we can send it a couple places as being "co-authored." That would put his name on it which would be a huge help, since most publications aren't looking for articles from unknown graduate students.
