Need repertoire suggestions.
on: February 09, 2007, 05:02:24 PM
Hello everyone,

I considered posting this in the repertoire section since it seemed a little bit more relevant there, but the disclaimer stating that the forum was primarily suited for advanced pieces. So instead I post here~

I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I'm currently stuck with a keyboard that only spans five octaves (C2-C7). I'm trying to advance my technique, but many of the pieces I've come across are more or less all over the keyboard. I'm primarily interested in music in the Romantic/Impressionist/20th Century idiom, which only worsens the problem.

If anyone could suggest advanced (not virtuoso by any means, but grade 7/8/8+ by ABRSM standards) music in any of these three idioms that only spans five octaves (either C1-C6, C2-C7, or C3-C8; my keyboard is capable of moving all keys up or down an octave, but still only has 61 keys), it would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Jimmy

That's not easy to answer
What I can suggest is to upgrade to golden member (3$ a month) and get access to the sheet music of about 2000 pieces
The good thing about the sheet music library here at pianostreet is that you can search the archive by grade. So you could take the time to look at all the pieces within your grade, save the ones that are within your octaves limited range and you're just ready to print them

Well its not romantic, but Bach does not have as much range as most of the romantic pieces, so maybe try a P&F or Partita or something of that sorts.

try some chopin nocturnes or waltzes.
