John Field Nocturne #5
on: February 15, 2007, 12:29:01 AM
I'm posting this to fulfill the request of jre.

There's random noises in the middle but that's because my dad was screwing around.

The last rolled cord was also cut out because my dad was playing with the camera but it's OK it's only one cord.

It's a little rusty since I haven't played it in a while.

I'm gonna post some compositions of mine tommarrow

I hope y'all enjoy it.

There's also a youtube video

dear imbetter,

you play really relaxed and you are obviously 'into' piano playing well!  the only crit i would have would be that i think you should sit back farther (maybe only an inch or two).  you seem a bit crowded at the keyboard.  you are tall and have long arms.  i don't mind the sitting low.

your piano sounds like mine.  kinda  out of tune.  that can make any piece sound a little fragile.  but, your playing seems pretty solid.  if you are taking lessons - keep it up!

aww, wheres the virtuosic stuff? i was looking forward to some.

in all seriousness, i didnt get to see much, for my connection is really slow now. but, from what i did see, i would have to agree with pianistimo. sit a little farther back. also, your fingers are a bit flat, so keep an eye out for that. however, you seemed to have a feeling for it, musically. keep it up!

Ohhh, it interrupted ...But okay I have seen the famous Imbetter play now ;D Very nice! Just a few tips: I would suggest to play with less accent on the first beat of the measure to make it sound more floating. Follow the phrases. One mistake I very often have to correct at (on? by? I never get these prepositions right :P) my own students: don't rise your whole leg when you rise the pedal. Put the heel on the ground and just lift the forefoot. The ball of the foot should be on the pedal. To me curved fingers are not that important in slow pieces. That plays a role when you want to play fast.
Very nice, keep it up! :)

thank you very much! I sit like that when I'm nervous.

curved fingers have never been an importants to me either. when i first started taking lessons i used flat fingers and my teacher never corrected me so now its a habbit I'm trying to get out of. Thanks for advice on how to improve.

I'll post some more stuff later, preferably some virtuoso stuff

Nice, sensible playing. I think, the melody could sound more expressive, if you introduce the long notes better:  think the note, before you play it. There should be the illusion, that a note can begin pianissimo and getting louder. That's physically impossible, but if you think how a violinist or clarinettist would play it, the melody will get much more life in it. Link the notes together with slow arm movements, not only let the finger fall on the key. Transport the musical tension from the beginning of a melodical phrase til the end of it. It's not easy, I know, but if you aspire it, one will hear it  :D

The repeated chords are a bit too percussive. Even there should the melody (highest note of every chord) sound very cantabile (use pedal, but change on every chord).

I recognized something funny: when you lift the pedal, you lift your whole leg. That's what I did, when I was in your age. You should be aware, that you have much better control of the pedal, if you only lift your toes, keeping the heel on the floor.
If it doesn't work - try something different!
