Fingering question: Schubert waltz
on: February 20, 2007, 03:55:47 PM
Hi
i am currently learning a little waltz from Schubert (from op.9, n°3). I have a fingering question (i cannnot ask my teacher for the following 3 weeks...)
LH has to play:
Eb on beat 1 (dotted half note, so must be hold the whole mesure)
Bb-Db-Eb chord on beat 2, and the same chord on beat 3 (quarter note each)
The first Eb is 1 octave lower of the following "chord" Eb.
My edition suggest to play Eb with 3, and, using pedal, just release it and play the chord, say 3-2-1.
However, i am under the impression that, whenever it is possible, it is allways better to held notes with fingers instead of using pedal for this purpose.
What do you think of:
Play Eb with 5, and, holding it down, play Bb with 2, and BOTH Db and Eb just with the thumb.
Is this acceptable? Or is a bad habit to play 2 notes with a single finger this way?
If yes, do you think its better than the edition fingering option?
PD: i have been playing for just a little over 2 years, and i feel not confident enough to change fingerings by myself...
