Jack Gibbons Carnegie Hall
on: February 24, 2007, 05:40:37 PM
Just wondering if anyone else has tickets to see Jack Gibbons next Saturday at Carnegie hall.  He's not only performing Gershwin, but also the Alkan Concerto for Solo piano.  Should be excellent!

Too bad I'm not in New York now.    :'(     I'd definitely go.

Well, the venue of 270 seats isn't good for bootlegging.  I wouldn't have risked getting kicked out and not seeing the Alkan Concerto performed to try to bootleg.  However..the concert was absolutely incredible.  I met Jack Gibbons after, he signed my CD, and we talked a bit about Alkan.  He is a genuinely nice man, who plays because he loves to play.  He gave a nice talk to the audience explaining about Alkan, and gave a little history.  So it may have been a once in a lifetime opportunity to see this monsterous piece performed.  A special treat too for the encore, Alkans Allegro Barbaro.  Amazing of course.

On a side note, he told me he is going to try to arrange another concert later on this year to perform the entire Op. 39 set.  That would be amazing.
