If your hands and feet were bound and your mouth was gagged, and you were hanging from a tree limb by your hands, and lots of hungry cannibals were asleep under you (the rope that has you tied to the tree is quite long, but not so long that your feet touch the ground....your about halfway beetween the tree and the ground) and the cannibals want to eat you in the morning (it is night).....how would you escape?  You don't have any SUPER POWERS or anything....but you are mighty atheletic.

swing until i built up enough momentum to land on top of the tree limb, then chew through first the gag, then the ropes, then use the rope as a grappling hook to swing to surrounding trees.
Or, if there were no trees around, I would use the rope to tickle the cannibals into waking, then wait until they got so mad that they went to get stuff to get me out of the tree with (they can't reach me, and no guard would be left ^_^) and then run away while they were gone.

THAT IS SOOOOO CLOSE TO WHAT I WAS THINKING!!!!! My plan was the same until I got to the part where I chewed through the ropes.  Then I thought I'd just climb down the trunk or something and run away.     Thanks for your idea.  BTW, you are in a forest, so there are other trees around.  I was just curious if there was any other way......any other suggestions would be helpful.  I want the largest variety to pick from.  You see, I'm trying to find something that no one would expect.......

i don't think they are not stupid enough to leave there only hope at food alone. and i really doubt you could chew through something strong enough that will hold you hanging, or at least it would take a lot of time.

this is how it is done:

assuming you are athletic enough, build momentum and then swing to the top of the branch. while up there look for a rough or sharp stick of some sort and use that to detach yourself from the branch and free your hands. but there is not enough time to remove the "gag" in your mouth or to unbind your feet. quickly and quietly climb down to the bottom of the tree and grap some dry grass or leaves. go back up to safety in the tree and rub to sticks together on the grass to make a small fire. now grap a stirdy, firm stick from the tree and set it on fire and quietly climb down the tree. be careful not to wake the cannibles...and then escape with your stick/torch.

however if a cannible(s) does awaken, it gets more complex. Now you must use your stick/torch as a weapon to kill the woken cannible. this surely will wake up other cannibles. now you must use your knowledge of martial arts and your athelticism to kill all the cannibles...i am assuming there are about 20 cannibles?? Just stab them with your burning stick and they will surely die. and chances are the other cannibles will be come scared and eventually leave you alone. so you probably don't have to kill all of them, maybe just 10 out of 20.

if you are hanging from a tree limb by your hands - the rope is useless.  it is just hanging beside you.  you grab it with both bound hands and drop.  hope deferred. until, your mighty athletic powers kick in on the ground floor.  you fight all the cannibals with two hands.  saying nothing.  swinging right and left before they wake up.  you use the rope to tie them up and leave silently.

I mean, if you have, say 20 feet between you and the branch, and you are just a couple feet off the ground, then you could just swing really fast in circles and use your body as a battering ram to hack down the savages when they wake up....

My first thought was just to chill until they bring you down to cook you, then start with the surprise headbutts, because you're mighty and they're hungry and weak, ya just knock 'em down one by one.  Maybe eat THEM just to make a point.

But then I think if they're leaving you to hang overnight, they couldn't be THAT starved - and not so weak.  So I wonder, how many of them are there?  How many cannibals does one person feed?

Well, waiting to be brought down won't work because they could just kill you where you hang before cooking breakfast.  To swing up would be noisy, with them sleeping right underneath, better hope they're heavy sleepers.  It could be possible to climb the rope even with bound hands, being mighty athletic.

Once upon the branch, it depends how the rope is attached to the branch, if it's tied directly to the branch it could be possible to just slide the rope off as the branch narrows.  If the rope is tied by the ground and slung over the branch (more likely), then you've got a lot of rope to work with once you jump to the ground.

So before jumping to the ground, find something sharp amongst the cannibals because you'll have to quickly cut yourself free after jumping (it'll be loud and they'll wake up, maybe jump ON the strongest cannibal).  Best to wait until late in the night, when they'll be in a deeper sleep so it'll take longer for them to figure out what's going on.

If you've made it this far, you're free from the rope and now have a sharp weapon.  Congratulation! Because you're mighty, you now have the choice to run away, or maybe kill some of them and become the brutal new leader...

(The choice is obvious, how many people get a chance to lead a tribe of cannibals?!)

I'll just assume that the tree limb is....ahh....let's say sixteen feet high.  ()  You are about halfway....so...maybe.....six/seven feet of rope.

So I wonder, how many of them are there? How many cannibals does one person feed?

How about.....somewhere in betwee 10 and 20.  Oh, and you have a companion with you that you have to worry about.....who's not so atheletic.......
