mine was 125.  it says that 111-128 is above average intelligence.  i don't feel too badly.  i refused to answer the question that said 'evil won.'  so that one probably brought my score down a little.

75 on pattern recognition.  hope that's good.  it might indicate something about sightreading skills?  well, it was fun while it lasted.

my daughter, in 7th grade, just took the SAT.  we are awaiting her scores because if she scored highly - she'll get into free summer courses through johns hopkins.  i don't know why - but she's already smarter than me.  she goes right to her dad with help for homework - although i help her on projects sometimes.  i didn't realize there are many FREE programs for children who take that test early (by request).  for instance, once montgomery community college found out that she took the SAT's - they sent her a 'precocious child' program that offers $545. worth of classes for FREE - in MATH.  so, by the time she is in 12th grade - she can take whatever classes she wants there instead of being limited by the school's last math course.

i'm not sure what i will do if my daughter majors in physics.  probably fall over dead.

i see.  yes.  'fall over dead' being the important part.

still waiting to see your scores, thal. and don't just pull a figure.  i know i'm at least 10 points over you.  lying won't work with muhammad either.

i have to admit - this is making me nervous.  i am using the stress balls right now.  rolling them and saying '115, thal, 115 on this iq test'  that for once i may be a winner.

no post yet?  hmmm.  makes me think somebody went fishing. you can't take the test twice.  it isn't fair.

soliloquy, are you a nobel prize winner or something?  according to lewis terman (who came up with the iq test - around 1916) over 140 is genius or near genius and those who score in the 160 range would be really much smarter and rarer.

ok. 140-whatever = genius
120-140 = very superior intelligence
110-119 = superior intellligence
90-109 = normal or average
80-89 = dullness
70-79= borderline deficiency
under 70= definate feeble-mindedness

so, thal - where are you?  this is taking an awfully long time.  remember, no pencils.

**don't worry, lau, this test is rigged.   besides, common sense counts for a lot.

ah.  yes. another genius.  ok.  i expect a wind operated energy station in my backyard next week.  i mean the bill was over $400. last month.  prompting me ask 'how much' for the private energy station.  something that can manage a dryer going 24/7.

ps you know at the drycleaners - how they have those rotating hanger thingies.  i want to buy one on the black market and use it constantly rotating and drying the clothing as it hangs.  but, so it doesn't use electricity - i want it on a hand crank.  a minimal crank with larger and larger shafts so that by the time it gets to the clothesline -they speed around at 100 mph.

something else would be nice.  while the handcrank is operating the clothes dryer - i want it to charge the lights in the kitchen for an hour.  that way - i'll do the laundry at night and receive electricity when i need it.

speaking of efficiency - i think separated oven/stovetop combinations are ridiculous.  why don't we just go back to those cast iron oven/stovetop - so when you heat the oven the water boils on the stove?

also, can someone please design a quiet flush toilet that is like those on the airlines?  i want to minimize water useage.  the way i see it - the water in the toilet is dumping a gallon each time.  i just want one that scrubs itself afterwards.

I scored 132... if she does do physics seriously, once you've got up and dusted yourself off, start cheerleading! If she chooses physics as a career path, people will fall over themselves to give her opportunities. Physicists are an endangered species anyway but female physicists are positively rare - if she wants to do research or teach, as long as her grades are good enough she should have no problems getting work! Being an escaped physicist myself, people tried all sorts of things to make me stay in science. Unfortunately for them I wanted to go into theatre instead and I've never looked back... Even if she doesn't stay in science, physics is a brilliant thing to have on your CV. It demonstrates all sorts of useful intellectual skills and gives you a head start on the competition as the boss reads your CV and the first thing they think is 'this person's a physicist, that means they're really clever.'
Go you big red fire engine!

Did not need to as my brain was more than sufficient.

In order to do well in these tests, you need to be able to concentrate and empty your brain of other thoughts.

Obviously, the religious clap trap that infests yours has resulted in a feeble score.

Most people at Oxford or Harvard are very smart, am sure if you study medicine or Law at either of those Uni then you are possibly smarter than, ammmm 98% of the population, ie the likes of Tony Blair or  Bill Clinton.
I think on this Forum Paul Wee and Kolji fall under the 98% mark, it is hard to tell if anyone else on this forum are quite as smart as the two, infact its unliky.

The smarter person should do something about being so poor ;D  Or the smarter person won't care, and will get the cheapest degree they can find and have a successful law firm anyhow!

Anyways I got something like 102, which is a disappointment...  Now I'll have to throw out all my 'RC - super genius' business cards and get a new batch of cards reading 'RC - just some guy'.

dear elspeth,  thanks for your response.  i really do wish i could help my daughter more.  if anything happens to my husband, she's out with help on her homework.  seriously - she already knows algebra (which is about as far as i went) and she's only in 7th grade.

dear thal,  i suppose you are right about 'throwing' some things out when test taking.  i tend to do best on essay questions whilst everyone else is scratching their heads trying to think of what to write.  but, on some of the math questions - i am using my fingers (figuratively).  i was just teasing you.  don't take what i say too seriously.  i am sure you are better at math than i am.  being somewhat of a perfectionist, though, i do try to make sure my math answers are correct by double checking if there is time.  usually i run out of time - so i'm always rushing a bit.  this can affect my mental stability.  usually by the end of tests that are 'battery' type - i am exhausted.

lol  The last time there was one of these IQ test things, someone said the same sort of stuff, and I then retook the test and posted a screen capture :P  Must I do it again?  Isn't calling someone a liar like... non-christian in some way?  Also, considering this test is only 32 questions and they are all true/false, I seriously doubt it's a real SOURCE on what a person's actual IQ is.  But 160 is what I scored on this particular test :P

Indeed, she is showing her true colours.

Having the balls to admit when you have been beaten, seems to be beyond this particular Christian.

If her score was higher than mine, she would not be claiming the test was stupid.

Perhaps she is angry as the Holy Spirit was guiding her through the test and has let her down.

But my aura is purple.  I always felt like I had a purple aura. :P

Interesting site with all those tests.  Except... you already know the answer to the test before you take it.  If the test comes out wrong, you would dismiss it.  If the test comes out "right," then you just confirmed what you already knew.

You know recently i was watching a program on gifted children, i was amazed by what i saw. One child had a passion for Chess so he started playing and learning chess, so in-need of some challenge he decided to play his father chess blindfolded, the kid did win the game.
The other kids could do things like speak 7 languages, write and publish books, basically they all  apart from 2, scored 170 in a Iq test, imagin graduating from uni at 14.This TV program amongst other things made me realize that though we are all equal,we are also so different. The expression "it takes all sorts to make the world go round" is so true.
Intrestingly one lady an expert on this subject described such people as abnormal, and one parent even thought that it was unlucky to  be so smart, depression was one of the reason.

well especially kids that know their IQ, they'll always think of themselves as superior, right?  that can make for a very lonely life... and the ones graduating from un at that age, sure they have the smarts academically, but how easy would it be for a kid to be in a university setting socially?  Most people aren't going to hang out with a kid, when they have to censor everything that they say.  It would just be so hard for the kid who is so developmentally behind the rest to handle a stiutation like that. Depression would be huge.  I mean depression is bad enough for normal people, imagine somenoe that is so far separated from the rest of society  Flowers for Algernon, anyone?

I dunno about you guys, but my most intelligent friends are the most likely ones to be depressed, the dumber ones are generally more happy.  The smart ones are the the ones that I get to stay up all night with trying to ensure theat they don't kill themselves.  (like last night...whee...)  The one guy in particular is brilliant, he can sit in a classroom an just absorb the stuff, he never cracks open one of the books. he just KNOWS it. and its insane.  And he's probably the most depressed person I know.  Same with a handfull of other people I know.  Geniuses and majorly messed up.  Just a case study.

Sure they're brilliant but *** I woulsn't want to be them.  not at all

That makes sense, if we choose our friends based on similarities, the kid who has an extremely rare intellect won't have many friends.  At least, not many friends who he can share his passions with.

But I run into the problem of the nature of 'intelligence'.  Some people are brilliant in academic areas, but are social idiots.  There's a kinesthetic genius of the athlete.  I know a few people who're socially brilliant but didn't do so well in school.  I sometimes think that the ones who are exceptional in certain fields could do just as well in their weak areas if they cared enough to apply themselves in the same way.

I've also known a doctor who gave his 11 yr old nephew a lighter so he could go 'play in the coulee' during a drought :o

I don't think the exceptionally quick kids necessarily need to be unhappy, happyness and smarts aren't mutually exclusive.  I wonder what kind of parental pressure is on the intellectually inclined children?  Or maybe just societal pressure, I doubt these kids are unhappy until they reach a more self-conscious (self-critical) age where their difference would begin to trouble them.  In which case that's not so unusual.

A genius has to learn to find happiness in life, just like the rest of us.

That's interesting. I scored well under 100, which is par for the course for me. I have always been a big dud at those things - must just be dense I suppose. I took the emotional one and it said I was brimming with confidence but have little motivation.

I think I shall stop now before worse befalls.

I dunno about you guys, but my most intelligent friends are the most likely ones to be depressed, the dumber ones are generally more happy.

Yes and No, very intelligent people are largly also very successful, where-as not so smart people are usually less successful therefore unhappy. However those that are abnormally intelligent do suffer from depression due to lonelyness and sometimes failed expectation or pressure.
