More Piano Concerti (a lot more)
on: March 03, 2007, 10:57:44 PM
Any of the following, please. A mix of famous and obscure this time.   ;D I know it's quite a bit.

√Medtner: Concerto No.2 in C minor Op.50
√Rachmaninoff: Concerto No.1 in F# minor Op.1 (revised edition)
√Macdowell: Piano Concerto No.1 in A minor Op.15
√Liszt: Concerto No.2 in A major
√Paderewski: Concerto in A minor Op.17
√Mozkowski: Concerto in E major Op.59
√Glazunov: Concerto No.1 in F minor Op.92
√Mendelssohn: Capriccio Brillante in B minor Op.22
√Lyapunov: Concerto No.1 in Eb minor Op.4, √No.2 in E major Op.38, Rhapsody on Ukranian Themes
√Franck: Les Dijiins

I will check them off from the above list as they are posted, if anyone posts them. Thal, I wonder if you have all of these in your massive collection? That would certainly make things easier.

Oh, thank you! You are so generous, Thal.  :)
I look forward to seeing them.

Incidentally, how much music do you have in your archives? Thousands? Tens of thousands? More?

Time for my comments ;)... I hope you don't mind.:
Medtner: Concerto No.2 in C minor Op.50 (Deserves more attention)
Rachmaninoff: Concerto No.1 in F# minor Op.1 (revised edition) Just plain incredible, really.  Sturm Und Drang.  Zimerman said that you don't play Rachmaninoff Concerti- you live them.
Macdowell: Piano Concerto No.1 in A minor Op.15 Interesting work, more for a young person doing their first concerto.
Liszt: Concerto No.2 in A major As this was my introduction to Liszt, it was beautiful but not too interesting to a 10 year old.
Paderewski: Concerto in A minor Op.17
Mozkowski: Concerto in E major Op.59 You should see Moscheles' Concerto Pathetique.
Glazunov: Concerto No.1 in F minor Op.92
Mendelssohn: Capriccio Brillante in B minor Op.22
Lyapunov: Concerto No.1 in Eb minor Op.4, No.2 in E major Op.38, Rhapsody on Ukranian Themes unfamiliar.
Franck: Les Dijiins Highly recommended.  Very effective.  Its only weakness is a fondness for too many climaxes... like that can happen!
For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert.  (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)

A bit random, like a thread hijack, it could be seen.

I regret to inform you, Thal, that the Rach you posted is not the revised version (at least I don't think it is- the 3rd mvt is radically different in my recording)

(EDIT: Don't worry about it, I found it elsewhere.)

I was a little worried about posting Rach and Medtner, but the boss of this superb site has indeed got some in his collection here, so i thought it was Ok.

Yeah, it's illegal in the US and Europe but I think it's legal, oddly enough, in Canada.
