Have a nice day
on: March 11, 2007, 12:01:59 PM
By the Stereophonics - always makes me smile :)

So, in memory of last summer, and in knowledge that this summer is coming, enjoy the sun and have a nice day :)

Indeed, Gravesend is very sunny today.

Often the hottest place in the UK.

what about the song 'you had a bad day' by somebody pewter

i always have a good day when i hear 'you had a bad day.'  ironic.  i know.  it just makes bad days kind of funny.  i mean - to illiterate what went on and then explain that's what made it a bad day.

he said that he didn't want to end up in amish country - out of gas - with a bottle of champagne if he had to drive home afterwards.

Hmm, if he ran out of gas, it would indeed be difficult to drive home.

Perhaps anything is possible in pianistimoworld.

Thankyou gilad :)

I was hoping to have a nice weekend, but I got some shocking news that a friend had died ever so suddenly. It was just so sudden. There wasn't any foresight at all, though it seems there could possibly have been. I mean, in some cases you can be prepared for it by knowing that it may or will happen, and that can help when it does arrive. But here there was no knowledge, no foresight, no preparation.

It's odd, when you think about it, that it takes a while to really know that they've gone, like your mind keeps insisting that they still exist. In a sense they do, in your memories, and maybe it's your brain fooling itself. And it's an odd thing to cope with, knowing that they were there, but now they're not. It's not like something you lose and see again at some point. It's so final, so undisputable, no chance for change. No chance for anything now, nothing can be done.

It's that feeling that I've never liked, that absolutely nothing can be done. Even with a decision of any kind, you can go back on it, and you can revel in the fact that there is that possibility. Even if you try your hardest to go one way and are determined not to go the other, it's still nice to know that there are choices. It's that factor of control, and that in this situation we have none. I have none. I don't like that.

But that isn't coping. Coping is knowing all of that, but accepting it. And I know that.

Anyway, sorry to bum you all out with this, but I feel it's a good method of coping with things to write them out for others to read. I guess I just did what pianistimo wrote about: illiterating what went on, and explaining that's what made it a bad day, or weekend in my case. It's helped. And although I know I've had a bad weekend, I can feel happy that I've ended it well. And gilad, you've helped :)

So now, have a happy Monday :)

i'm so sorry, henrah.  that's terrible.  especially as it sounds that your friend was young.  i hope that his/her parents can be comforted, too.  sometimes forgetting yourself and going and doing something is the best way to cope intially. i'd go over to his/her parents when the time is right and just tell them how much he/she meant to you.  they probably already know - but it might reassure them to have someone your age around right now.  friends can be calmer than parents - and reassuring them might actually reassure yourself.  don't plan what to say - but just what you feel about him/her.

thal, i hope you do come see the wannamaker - AND the new organ at the kimmel center.  i meant to say the wannamaker is at lord and taylor's in philadelphia.  it's cool because it's on the second or third floor - but the pipes go to the ceiling i think.  you can see from the lobby the guy playing away.  bring your bike, thal.  i'll make it worth your while.  oh.  and bring those pics of mt blanc.  i'm really curious what it's like to climb the tallest mountain in the alps.

i meant, worth your while on a bicycle.  i mean - you on yours and me on mine.  i could show you the audubon trail for instance.  perhaps the remants of the carcass of turtle that i ran over last year for starters.  it was an accident.  perhaps you will be my next accident.  we could accidently run into each other and get something interesting to happen on this trail.  the park rangers always look like they have nothing to do.  yes.  that's it - we'll pretend like we're an old married couple or something - and start blaming each other for hitting one another.  i'm actually curious what the park rangers would do.

perhaps i will ask permission of the valley forge park rangers for that.  i can understand your reluctance alistair.  all i know is that in george washington's time - everyone yelled 'stand back.'  i hear cannons do best when lashed down.

ah yes.  the 1812 overture.  wait.  that was tchaikovsky.  hmm. must be wellington's victory. haven't listened to that in a long time.

you can be sure, alistair - i'd never attempt to fire you from a canon.  i'm planning to ordering two things from the sorabji archive today.  have a nice day!

and, henrah - what's going on?  did you find out how the parents are doing.  probably can't let go of you, right?!  imagine when one loses a child - they need some sort of replacement.  keep bugging them.  it'll keep them sane and realizing that all is not lost - and to stay connected with the world.  you can be their adopted son (although if they lost a girl - it might be one of her gal friends that will bring the most comfort right now).

No, I never assumed that you would, whether the conon had one n or two; my reference was to your remarks addressed to Thal that "you can choose your weapon" and "i will test the cannon before you come" and I don't believe that the kind of "shooting" that this could be read to imply  is quite the same as literal connon fire - if you see what I mean (although, since you are a good Christian Pennsylvanian girl, you just might not, I suppose...)

yes. i see what you mean alistair.  i suppose i should listen when the spirit tells me not to speak my mind.  what with it being occasionally messed up.  ok.  as i first was thinking - hmm.  thal tells me to 'get lost' in january and now he's coming to visit.  so i get all suspicious and think that perhaps i should 'test the waters' and see if he is coming to finish me off or actually have a friendship.  probably my best weapon is my bible - but i don't want to bring it out too soon.  it probaby works like crosses do for vampires.  and, yet - i don't really think thal is a vampire (is he?).  i know he likes to read 'jack the ripper' books - but it's really harmless unless he takes on the persona of jack the ripper occasionally.  don't want to go cycling and then suddenly have an episode of 'fire fire.'  it had dawned on me to charge my cell phone just in case.

i have always taken great risks in my life.  most of them foolish.  occasionally wise.  God must have some kind of plans for me because i think i should be dead at least 20 times.  probably more like 100.  once a car part was worn down so much that the mechanic said to me - how did you get here?  by the hand of God, i guess.  that was when we were younger and broke and the car was falling apart.  the mechanic literally took out this one piece and showed me how it was holding together like a thread.  something that connected to the axle and if it had broken on the freeway or even side road going 50 mph - it wouldn't have been good.

so - as i see it - if i attempt to be brave and use weapons from the civil war to defend myself - i may as well use the canon.  it is loud and fast.  (unlike me)  and if nothing else - will stun thal for the few moments i need to get away.  also, if there is any weapon that will work on thal - it is a canon.  body builders don't get that way because they were born with chipmunk bodies.  as i see it - thal would still keep standing if hit by a canon right through the stomach.

i cannot divulge all my plans for him.  (you know - bringing a couple of kids with me - or, shockingly my husband for any late night affairs).  if i take thal to a concert at night - my hubby will insist on coming.  i have already told him about thal - so it won't be any surprise.  i have not, however, mentioned the bike trail a second time.  the first time he said ' i don't think that's a good idea.   you don't know this person.'  that is where risk comes in.  i will leave a message on the counter - gone cycling.  (unless he also reads the piano forum threads).  if i do not return - at least he will know to look for me somewhere's in the river.  it is quite slow moving - so by the time he gets there i should not have moved out into open waters yet.

Less risky than trying to walk on them, I guess...

and see if he is coming to finish me off or actually have a friendship.
I'm quite sure that it's not the former...

probably my best weapon is my bible - but i don't want to bring it out too soon.
But you do, though - frequently!

it probaby works like crosses do for vampires.  and, yet - i don't really think thal is a vampire (is he?).
Although I have never yet met him in person, I have not one shred of evidence to suggest anything of the sort.

so - as i see it - if i attempt to be brave and use weapons from the civil war to defend myself - i may as well use the canon.  it is loud and fast.
Why do you continue to suppose that Thal plans to come to PA for the purpose and with the intent of murdering your or causing you grievous bodily harm? And why have you thereby gone so far off the topic "Have a nice day"?..

Thanks, and I did! Well I have so far: I got accepted to TVU after an interview and found out my drawing skills aren't so bad after all! The interviewer set me a lil challenge to draw my hand in a relaxed palm-up position and I drew the thumb quite well! London's wicked, I love the parks ;D

Went to the funeral of said mentioned friend on Tuesday. Twas a sad day for all. In a way, funerals are good, for the grieving process. They kinda finalise things. Before it, I just couldn't believe that he was gone. I was always thinking that I'd see him the next day. But seeing his name preceeded with loving memories on a little white booklet filled with hymns and poems was what really made me realise that he was gone. The inability to control my chin muscles is a feeling I'll never forget; neither will I forget the memorial flower decoration made for him: a guitar shaped out of white flowers with strings and pinecones for the tuners; and neither will I forget the cacophony of sniffs in the church.

That's real rough man... seems that you are getting over it well though.  Hey, if you're an artist, then USE YOUR TALENT!  I had a similar situation a few years ago... except it was a girl I had just started to get to know, then bam, and the world goes upside-down.  Playing the piano is what saved me.  Good luck!

It's a horrible thing to go through, but funerals are always useful in all sorts of ways.

A dear friend of mine was murdered when we were 18, we couldn't bury him for nearly three weeks afterwards while the inquest and so on went ahead. The wait was horrid... it didn't feel real at all, I kept half expecting to see him again during that three weeks.

Being an artist or a musician is very useful when a crisis hits, it gives you an outlet for your feelings that a lot of people don't have.

Hey Henrah

I only just read this thread.

I am so sorry to hear about your friend. A colleague of mine died too, suddenly, in a plane crash, just last week.

It's the unexpectedness of it that is hard to deal with, isn't it?

They go from being someone who was there, to someone who isn't  :-\

Sorry to hear about your colleague Ada. How're you coping?

It's the unexpectedness of it that is hard to deal with, isn't it?

They go from being someone who was there, to someone who isn't :-\

You're right, it is. Most especially because I hadn't seen him in ages, and now I wish I had. That's what always gets me: thinking about them and thinking about when you'll see them, then realising that you never will again. It's only then that I realise they're gone.

But it's great thinking about the fun times that were had. The memories are so much more enjoyable now that there won't ever be the chance to create more. And I'm glad it happened at the break of spring: all the trees and flowers are blossoming and the sun is out. Seems much easier to cope rather than having to go through the winter blues with it on your mind. Bless the sun :)

And you guys are right: being an artist, it inspires us. After his death I've decided to take up Brahm's Capriccio in F#minor, Op.76 No.1 again. Such a beautiful piece. Plans are underway for tribute gigs and fundraisers for the Meningitis Research Foundation. Unfortunately the one that's being held on his birthday (June 30th) is the very day I go to Devon, but I'll be holding another at my house with food, hammocks and music in our hall. There'll be (hopefully) both amped and acoustic music, with (also hopefully) a solo piano recital by me. Also I'm going to dedicate my A2 composition to him. It seems fitting seeing as the crux of the composition has come about since his death.

Have a nice red nose day :)
