Fingers on this passage
on: March 11, 2007, 09:26:30 PM
I've never been able to fully dominate this particular passage, I think because of the fingers I use. Which would you recommend:
A) 51515152 15345432 51515152 15345432 51515152 15345432 34541232 12321232
B) 51515151 23234321 52525252 13234321 52525252 13234321 23421232 12321232
C) Any combination of both, or any other suggestion...
Thanx a lot.

I would personally use (assuming the four notes before are played 1231):
4141 4152 1)(323 4321 3141 4152 1)(434 5432 3141 4152 1)(434 5432 3453 1231 2342 1342 1)...
but then, I can reach a major tenth and prefer 1-4 octaves, so it might not be the most comfortable for you.
Also, I have a feeling that the phrases are grouped as indicated by the parentheses, e. g. that they end with the beat rather than start. Another interpretative hunch of mine is that the LH non legato eights should be brouhgt out in second half of the phrase (against the RH sixths), whereas the RH is dominating in the scale-ish parts. But then, that's just the way I'd play it, I definitely don't want to disagree with your teacher...

I haven't shown this piece to my teacher yet (we're doing one at a time). That's why I'm asking. And yes, my question is mainly that: should the prhases be grouped as pianogeek_cz indicates, or should all of this passage be played legato?
