Looking for short piece...
on: March 14, 2007, 07:56:39 PM
I am currently searching for a short piece, e.g. 2 pages, from the Romantic Era that is "flashy." Any thoughts?

Well, Rachmanninoff has a some stuff that would fit the bill except that they're 3-4 pages, on the other hand, they are less than 2 minutes...

Examples:

Oriental Sketch
Preludes... (op23 no1, no. 8...)
Flight of the Bumblebee

Or look through Chopin's Etudes (Butterfly, Black Key...) or preludes...

Greig Dance of the Gnomes

I'm sure there's more, but that's a start!

RnB
I'm an optimist... but I don't think it's helping...

Chopin preludes, several of them fit the bill.  Maybe the G major?
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Perhaps you might be interested in some Brazilian music that is flashy?

Check out HEITOR VILLA-LOBOS  "O Polichinello" from A Prole do Bebê Suite 1 .  "O Polichinello" is certainly Villa-Lobos' most popular piano piece and frequently crops up as recital encore, a trend begun by Rubinstein.  It's a little over 1 minute long.

I had a look through the Chopin preludes, No. 3 and No. 10 seem like the best ones, so I'll probably play one of them. Can't seem to find the Villa-Lobos though...

Thanks for the suggestions!
