This and That
on: March 16, 2007, 10:54:27 PM
See if you can guess what I'm talking about. And of course, feel free to comment on this as writing/poetry in general if you wish :)

This is nothing.
That was something.

This could be something that was.
This could be more than that was.
This could be everything I ever wanted, but this is nothing.

This has been hard.
This has been confusing.
I wanted this, and yet this is still nothing.

Why is this nothing?
What reasons hold this back?
Will nothing come of this?

The more I ponder this, the more I think about that.

That could be something.
That could be what that was again.
That could be better than that was before.

That has hope.
A reunion,
A restoration,
A rectification,
A return to what that was.
An amendment to what went wrong.

Was the end of that a mistake?
Could that have been something more?
Could that be better now than that was before?

The more I ponder that, the less I want this.

This hasn't materialised.
This has been and gone.
This was a delusion, a one-dimensional view.
I no longer seek this.

Time has passed and changed.
Knowledge of the past heals and pertains.
There is no resentment, no anger or hatred.
Now there is happiness, fun, and good times like the old.
Now there is that.

Every moment with that gives me hope.
Every moment with that makes that all the more pertinent,
All the more plausible, logical, inevitable.
Every moment makes me want that more.

In the eyes of many, this is right,
But in my eyes this is not to be.
In my eyes, that is all there is.

In my eyes, that is right.

I like your writing style ... you have the "poetic rhythm"

Your talking about "time" ?

Thanks Danny :) I feel I started off with a good structure, but from 'The more I ponder that, the less I want this' I kinda left that and just went freely.

And nope, I'm not talking about time. I mean, I am, but it's not the subject. It's not what 'this' and 'that' are referring to. Good guess though ;)

Nope. It's not time related. 'This' and 'that' are intangible prospects of tangible existences.

Nope, but they do (apart from revenge) enter into the situations somewhat, but a bit abstractedly, and only now that you bought them up.

EDIT: Just to help with the guessing, it's essentially one subject, but two parts. I would replace parts with a different word, but that would give too much away ;) Happy guessing!

Yes, it's about love, you got it :)

Now can you guess what 'This' and 'That' are?

Wow, that's so nice to know that others can find themselves in my thoughts!

In a sense it is a kind of frienship vs love thing. I feel like explaining it a bit further: 'This' and 'That' are both relationships. This is nothing, and That was something, in the romantic sense. So yes, it does involve friendship and love.

Tit for Tat
For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert.  (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)

It is the choice between having an already made, but burnt, cheese on toast or spending the time making a new one that will taste better and be better in every way ;) lol
