Dutilleux - Choral, cadence et fugato
on: March 17, 2007, 05:12:58 PM
One more piece from the chamber music festival in the end of Januar at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. This one is for trombone and piano.

This piece is perhaps not so wellknown, however, it is a very important work in the trombone repertoire (considering just how little trombone/piano repertoire there is out there, ANYTHING could probably be called a "very important work in the trombone repertoire", hehe...). The chorale is really gorgeous, very well written stuff.

He's great, I know - very happy to have met the guy, it gives a lot of perspective to study the small but interresting repertoire of the trombone, an unusual instrument in the chamber music world. Now we're going to learn Frank Martin's "Ballade", written during WW II, which I think you can hear when you listen to the piece. Whenever we get it done, I'll post a recording.
