pedal problems!
on: March 19, 2007, 03:02:23 PM
hey there,

very dejected because i love using (too much) sustaining pedal when playing the piano, but whenever the pedal is down, particular notes (15 or 20 of them) fail to make a sound. these keys don't have any resistance or weight to them when the pedal is down.

i opened the piano to see what was going on, and when you play a note with pedal, its hammer doesn't connect, it just drops back down. it seems like they've become detached, and almost need sticking back on or something! i hope that's clear enough. will elaborate if needs be :-)

anyway i'd like to ask for any suggestions to how to solve this, as the pedal is of course essential and i'm getting out of practise! my piano tuner left this problem alone, perhaps i need a specialist piano repair guy (expensive...)? has anyone else had and resolved this problem? or maybe my piano is just getting too old and tired :-(

thanks for reading! sally x

so your damper pedal effectively disables your keys?  many don't play at ALL when you depress the damper.  this is depressing.  yes.  you need a technician.  sounds like the action isn't working like it should.

do you have an upright or a grand?  when you said 'i opened the piano '  i wasn't sure if it was the lid of an upright or grand.

Your Tuner should have at least told you what the the problem is so you could call a technician to get an estimate of the repair.

Seems strange he didn't do anything but "left the problem alone" ?!?

Call him back and "pick his brain" for info.

Good luck
