"easy duets"
on: March 20, 2007, 12:21:00 AM
Also stolen... ;)

Does anyone have any duets that are easy for both parts? I am looking
for songs which perhaps a brother and sister can play together? Thanks!

Yes,

There is a German series for beginners, written by Anne Terzibaschitsch. One of the books is "Vierhändige Tastenträume" (4 handed keyboard pieces). The difficulty level rises gradually.
The books have texts in German as well as in English. Publisher is Holzschuh. You can find it at www.holzschuh-verlag.de  The site is also in two languages.

My students enjoy the "In Recital" series published through FJH.  Most of the duet parts are equal, though some have parts that are slightly harder than the other.  They range from early elementary through intermediate.

I was just looking for the same thing and picked up these books:  One is Martha Meier, Jazz, Rags, Blues Duets for two.  Some of them have some more complicated rhythms (dotted eighths, syncopation) but but some are pretty simple.  Also, a book by Carolyn Miller, Just Play it!  Together:  Six early elementary level piano duets,  and Terrific Tunes for Two, Martha Neier:  Exciting Duets for Elementary to Late Elementary Pianists.  I also found Martha Mier's Santa Fe Sunset, which is early intermediate.

"Hats off to you!" by Melody Bober is a really nice duet book that is a lot of fun for the students.
It does involve kids wearing different hats - and really getting into the character of the piece in a fun way.
They are easier than other duet books - even the intermediate ones are too advanced for a lot of kids.
Since duets present the challenge of working together rythmically - I like to make the piece as easy and interesting as possible.
One of the songs has a place where they clap during rests.
My students have loved it - even the challenging kids that don't like to practice.
