repetoire for LTCL/audition
on: March 21, 2007, 03:25:12 PM
Hi all

I'm preparing for my LTCL in June next year, and I wanted to get opinions on my *almost* settled program.

#1 Debussy - III. Toccata from Pour le piano

#2 Bach - WTC Book 1 no. 8 in Eb/D# minor

#3 Beethoven - Sonata no. 24 op. 78 in F#

#4 Mendelssohn - Fantasy in F# minor Op. 28

I might want to give it a shot at some auditions, so I need to invest well in the repetoire.

What do you think of placing Debussy first? That's just a thought that came to me earlier today.
My pieces are in C#m, Eb/D#m, F#, and F#m. Do you think it might sound tonally boring?

Are these pieces presentable at an undergrad audition standard?

Thanks for the thoughts!

S

Yes they are perfectly acceptible level of pieces - its how you play them that really counts.

I wouldnt begin with the Debussy myself..BUT I would try and break up the Beethoven and the Mendelssohn...two germanic pieces in near keys!

I would begin conventionally with the Bach no 8. Then play the Beethoven (with only a tiny pause between)..Then Id place your Debussy toccata... I know its not chronological but its fresh after the Beethoven and not too long! Then you can have a proper break and a change of tac for the Mendelssohn with a cracking ending to a programme!

Yeah, i definitely want to end with the mendelssohn.

Maybe placing Debussy inbetween Beethoven and Mendelssohn would be a good idea.

Thanks!
