Chamber Music: well, me, of course.

And, just in case people raise understandable objections to such gross egotism, let me remind them that there are (in the area where I reside) still some 60 minutes of today left...

Well, to be fair, he was one of the greatest composers who ever lived.

AND, only 2 other people have filled out the form besides you.

AND, I said Beethoven only 1 more time than you did.  ;D

...well I was about to say, looking at my form, it is also obvious who my favourite composer would have been...that said, Brahms also got quite a lot of mentions...but no Bach...hmmm

...I merely think in terms of pieces. I can tell you that Brahms 3 (3rd movt), Beethoven 3 (1st movt) and 5 (2nd-4th movts), and Mahler 4 (2nd and 4th movt.) are probably what I had in mind when I picked composers for symphonic work...

Polly coz he doesn't fit into too many categories, whereas most of the other major composers wrote in all of dem.

symphonic first mov'ts:  rimsky-korsakov
second movements: samuel barber - concerto for violin
third movements: beethoven - emperor concerto
fourth movment:  mahler's fourth movement from symphony #9 (ressurrection)

variations:  faure's theme and variations is interesting.  i'd like to hear it more often.  it is quite difficult at the end.

sonata - the movements all tend to blend together for some reason, for me.  i can't separate them from each other.  therefore - i really like the waldstein - all the movements because at one point - beethoven says ' just go at it - and move right into the next movement.'

i think these breaks are a carryover from baroque dances or something.  stop. wait for the green light.

symphonic poem:  i wnat to hear more and compare.  don't  know on this one yet.  probably rimsky-korsakov's 'scheherazade.'  or dvorak - 'the moldau.'

chamber music:  corelli (with cornets)

chorale music:  haydn, brahms, beethoven

opera:  mozart/verdi

Well we can only hope that each of your chamber pieces is exactly as you would want it, therefore they are the "perfect pieces" to you.  So I guess one could say such a thing without massive ego, if one were to think about it :)

PS- alistair, why did you take down mine and Ryguillian's homage to you from the Sorabji archive?  We had a back-story and everything =/  We were thinking about how when we were riding around on the ATV's how you would for sure ride around in the golf cart with us and how funny that would be XD

Whilst I can only hope (rather than expect) that this may be true (or at least as true as is humanly possible), I was saying it as a joke, pure and simple - no more, no less.

...oh. I see. But I still don't get that part of 60 minutes left part...or am i thinking too much already?

Isn't "The Moldau" written by Smetana as part of "Ma Vlast" ("My Country")? Or is this another 'moldau' I'm not aware of?
