Steinway Model D
on: March 28, 2007, 03:29:30 AM
I got to play a grand for the first time today. It was a model D at this piano store in Downers Grove, IL (only certified Steinway store in that city IIRC) and it was wonderful.  The bass on these things is so powerful.  I wanted to blow my load on the keys.

How much do these sell for? I didn't ask the dude at the store since I was just screwing around with what they had there. Didn't see any price tags either.

lol

You're not gonna see any price tags on those...

10 years old and in good condition: maybe 70 grand

Good luck man!

I'm an optimist... but I don't think it's helping...

my dream too... i got to play at manchester piano week on a brand new one in bright red. I was so embarrased because it was an open event and people were walking around, so i kept my playing to just a few bars of things i know - no full pieces. I was too embarrased that people would judge me - eg making a hack of some alkan piece with 30% wrong notes. There was someone practising on a limited edition steinway right next to me - the rach 3 ossia cadenza and tableau no. 5 for gods sake!
I just wish I'd ignored them and unleashed as much as I could - ignoring embarassment.
I might have a look around a steinway suppliers near me - do they mind if you don't intend to buy?
