Mendelssohn - prelude b minor, allegro agitato, op 104a no 2

Hi to all!

There should be more Mendelssohn around!

This is an amazing Mendelssohn prelude which i like a lot, still trying to master it. It's very tricky, esp. for the left hand .

I believe this piece is quite unknown and rarely played. So I just recorded it today at home with a mini disc to share with you.

It isnt yet at the level it should be, so i am eager to hear some imput from others to make that extra step.

Hi lava,

I like your rendition of this prelude a lot.  I also laud you for selecting a piece a bit more off the beaten path.  Mendelssohn in his day "rediscovered" Bach, and you can hear Bach's strong influence in this piece.  If you like this prelude, Mendelssohn also wrote a set of Preludes & Fugues that might interest you as well. 

In this Bm Prelude you display a nice even articulation, fine fluency and fluidity, and a sense of the long line as the piece unfolds.  The one suggestion I would make is that in just a couple of places, including at the beginning of the piece, in balancing the hands, you allow the LH accompaniment figuration to compete too much with the melodic RH.  The LH needs to be quiet background in those instances.  However, where the melody is transferred to the LH, as happens occasionally, it can then shine in the foreground, and you do that very effectively already.  I believe this prelude is in a set of three, yes?

I agree with you that there is very little Mendelssohn posted here, but if you go to Page 11 in this forum, you'll find 12 or 13 of his Songs without Words that I posted.  You might enjoy listening to one or two of those.
