A question re Rachmaninoff's recording of the Chopin Scherzo No. 3 in C-sharp Minor. Is this a studio recording or a piano roll transfer?

The fact that it's a studio recording is irrelevant because Rachmaninoff recorded in the days before editing.

Incidentally, Rachmaninoff supposedly said towards the end of his life that he regretted playing as fast as he did. He said that it was the one aspect of his playing in which he over-indulged, and he felt that the music suffered.

From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges.
