Myspace.com
on: April 22, 2007, 07:33:51 AM
today was my first visit to myspace.com. i am outdated, i know. but really, i was pleasantly surprised to see that people like argerich, kissin, andsnes and other world famous artists are members in the site.

first i thought, "wow, that was super duper cool!". but then i thought, hey, is it really them doing all that, or a major part of it is actually from their assistant(s) ( which is still cool but not that hmm.. super duper! )?

can anyone tell me what's the purpose for them to subscribe in that site? i have my own thought of it, but i would really like to hear what you all think.

I would bet money that a lot of artists pay their assistants or agents to do their myspace, just like they pay people to do their main websites.

Their reason?  Exposure.  Even the most well known artists need to keep their name on people's tongues.  Plus, the average age of classical music audiences is pretty old... they need to get new fans to replace them. lol

Just my $.02,

Facebook is the rival to myspace, so I'm told.  I've been getting people adding me as friends in facebook, friends who I thought have dropped off the face of the planet.  It's sucking me in!

Apparently it takes time to participate in these things...  I'm wary.

Myspace, youtube, blogs, the newest trend in marketing and PR. It's all part of what is called viral marketing. For the most part it's the PR/Management company putting these up and maintaining them. It's relatively inexpensive and reaches a huge market of mostly younger consumers. I used to work in an ad agency years ago, before the internet, and I find all of these new marketing avenues extraordinarily interesting.

I actually just started a blog in addition to the existing website that I design and maintain for the company I manage.

thats what i meant by personification at play, which made me confused. how about those id's of famous people who are still alive? are they surely not them? how can we be sure?
